Hi everyone. I just got home about 2 hours ago. Surgery was awsome. No complications. They found a hernia under my stomach though that we knew nothing about so the doctor had to take an hour to fix that before placing the band.

I have had absolutely NO pain. I can't believe it and neither could the nurses. I have taken nothing since surgery. The anestegiologist (sp?) gave me a shot of morphine in my spine before surgery and he said that helps alot with post surgery pain in the back. I am amazed because I had no pain ANYWHERE!!!

I am so happy about having the band. I asked 2 different nurses if they were sure that he was able to place the band after the hernia repair because I have no pain. They laughed and said yes you have a band. They told me when I went down this morning to do my barium swallow they would make sure that I get to see my band. Sure enough there it was. I watched the barium go through. That was pretty cool.

I would have been home earlier today but my pulse kept going low and they wanted to see if they could get it up and keep it up. They told me normal resting rate is between 60-80 but mine setting still not moving was 41. Then went I went walking for 20 laps and returned they took it again and it was at 64. I have a pulse/blood pressure wrist thing here at home and they told me to just keep an eye on it. I have been taking it and it is running about 55-58. They talked with my doctor about it and he said it could be due to the meds during surgery and the fact that all I have done today was sleep. I would sleep, wake up and go walk a few laps to try to ward off any gas pains and then get back in bed and doze off again. My left shoulder did get an annoying little ache (nothing to bad) so I put a heating pad on it and about 10 minutes later it was gone. Now I am just itchy and that is from the morphine shot in the back. They said alot of people get that side effect.

Anyway, I just had to post to let you all know how everything went. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!

:whoo::whoo::whoo:

Catch you all later!!

Jackie

Hi Everyone,

I got my band today and am doing well. I think the worst part of it was that when I tried to get up and walk the first time it felt like I had charlie horses in the calves of my legs. Did anyone else experience this? I think that pain along with the sore throat from the breathing tube was worse than the incisions. I am eating popsicles and drinking small amounts of apple juice. I didn't even need my pain medicine this afternoon. I planned to take a little before bed just to help me sleep but I am very surprised that it was not as painful as I imagined it would be. Anyway, thank you to everyone who wished me well. I am glad it is over and I am on the road to the new me. :)

Chim, good luck on your surgery tomorrow!!!! I will be cheering for you. Come post as soon as you are able to.

I haven't been posting much because like everybody else I am trying to tie up a thousand loose ends before Friday. And I am moving schools, so I have alreay packed 52 boxes of personal stuff to take with me and there is still stuff left. And I decided to give away some stuff too. Man, teachers have way too much crap ( forgive my french)!

My mom just called wanting to know about my diet and stuff...she was in a pretty good mood but after so many years of weight related repression or whatever you call it I feel so hesitant to talk to her. No, I hate talking to her about this. And then I feel guilty because she is my mom and regardless of her faults she did always loved me very much, and because she is trying to be all cheerful and supportive and I just want to shut her off. I know it's time for me to let go and move on with our relationship, but that's so hard!

Good luck to all tomorrow!

Brandy, I was self pay, about $16,000, but worth every penny, just to be able to look at my HOT DOC was worth that!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL!! Seriously, I'm worth every penny, and my insurance had exclusions for it, no way no how, and I wasn't going to fight, it would of prolonged the loss I've already had!

Cazulay, I have those mom feelings too. No very supportive of me, so I learned to stay around people that are. Maybe that's why I'm in one state and she's in another. I'm probably one of few that actually get along with my MIL better than my own mother. Funny thing is, it was the same way with my ex-MIL too.

OK so I have to share this with all of you. Some have ben going back and forth about who they're telling or not. Here's my story, and it's kinda funny.

So everyone at work knows, and they are all so excited for me. So I go there today to have lunch with a good friend, and I sware, I now know what it is like to have a rack (big boobs) because everyone was so busy STARING at my body as they we're talking to me. I felt like saying, "HELLO, my face is up here!!!!!!!!" I do consider myself to be a little on the well endowed side, it's just that my belly sticks out farther and it was never as noticable, ok, it used to, but geesh, can you not look me up and down. I felt like I was in a fashion show or something.

But overall, I have to say they were either being overly nice or they really did see a difference because I got a lot of compliments about 'looking good'.

Well, have to tell you all ... my baby turns 21 at midnight!!!!! YIKES!!! :) Talk about a restless and nerve racking night!!!! She just left for the evening and I am a bundle of nerves!!!! I can't wait til these next few days are over!!!! She just thinks her dad and I are way to over reactive, but man, it scares the daylights out of me!!! She did promise not to drive and will stay at a friends, but nonetheless, they are going out too!!!!:nervous

Oh well, besides that, we took her to Red Lobster tonight, because that is where she wanted to go ... I'm thinking well, what am I gonna eat there? ... it wasn't bad, I had about 3 bites of salad, 5-6 bites of mashed potatoes, probably 1/4 cup of cooked veggies, and 1/2 of a haddock broiled and lightly seasoned haddock fillet. So wasn't bad, no problems and I am feeling great this evening!!! So there is life after the band!!!! I do enjoy going out once in awhile, it is nice to know we can!!!:)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
