I have a date for July 17th with Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico I have been stuffing my face for the past 2 weeks. Instead of my BMI being 32 when I go for the surgery, it's going to be closer to 34! Any ideas? I don't any diet restrictions until the day before the surgery. Words of wisdom welcome...

Are you asking for suggestions to increase it or decrease it, and why? You're 15 days out, it's a little late in the game to make drastic alterations now, I would think.

bfyneNtyme,

We both made it home today. I'm so happy for you too. I have about the same feling, but my port is in the center chest area, under where my bra hits)

Until reading your post, I forgot I had those gas x thin strips. I've been feeling so well I haven't even used them.

Congrats on the success of your surgery. Now we just need to hear from BeefyIrish on his surgery.

A week or so ago someone, maybe Breadlady (?) mentioned getting tank tops with built in shelf bra to wear in the early post-op days. That sounded like a good suggestion. I found mine at Wal-Mart under $10!

reconciler - I am having surgery with Dr. Rumbaut and my BMI is 43 and I have to do a 5 day diet before surgery. They said the amount of days of the diet are based on your BMI. I have to do 3 days of what they call full liquids and then 2 days of Clear Liquids, basically broth, crystal light, and Water, plus protien shakes.< /p>

I guess I would just watch it and not gain too much, I think he just wants your liver to not be bloated and the diet helps make it smaller right before surgery.

I will let you know how things go, my surgery is the 10th. I won't be back home until the 13th so I probably won't get to post until then.

Reconciler, congrats on the date and welcome to our humble abode! We will add you to our Lucky 7's calendar.

Since your doc didn't give you a pre-op diet to follow, I would really try to take it easy...What you're experiencing seems to be the Last Supper mentality. You're trying to eat all the stuff that you know you won't be able to during your recovery...I got an article from my dietician on this. It said it's a form of grieving what we know we're about to lose. (1) Don't beat yourself up over this-it's normal, (2) Just try to not let it get out of control. You don't want your liver to get too large so that it will interfere w/your surgery. (3) RELAX and enjoy these moments before one of the biggest (and best) decisions of your life.:D

It's gonna be alright. :P

Laurend-- I know you said you're not going to get this for a bit, but my height is 64" and my highest weight (a week ago before I started my pre-op diet) is 261. It's funny how I don't mind posting that here, but my husband is not to know until at least 70 or so of it is shaved off!! You're so nice to do this. I never "play around" w/Excel as it involves math!!

Now, for more serious matters....I had to explain Carbs to my sons the other day (Connor is 7, Owen is 4) and did a little "well if you eat 10 carbs and only burn 5 then the other 5 turns to fat....I'm trying to trick my body into burning fat since I'm not eating carbs".

Marcy,

Kids are so funny. My 6 year old boy is very skinny and he thinks it's cool because my older son used to tease him about his bones sticking out and being sharper than swords. Now he is always trying to sleigh me by sitting on me with his "butt dagger." Seriously, I do get a little nervous that he thinks too much about his weight because weight is such a big part of my life.

bfyneNtyme, glad to hear you are home, safe and without any complications! Congratulations on the rest of your life.....

Hello late night people!! I see a few lurking around.......well, my date got changed from the 11th to the 31st, the doctor insisted that I get a sleep test and I've been trying to set it up for almost two weeks now, but it's been one thing and another......:P

I listen to those who are next on the July calendar and feel both jealous and resigned to the fact that I will be not in the middle of the month, but at the end......oh well, such is life......

Wow, that's great that two of you made it home in the same night!!! Woo Hoo!!

Kathy--I do kind of feel old, but I really mean old to have a baby with my own body. After 35, they treat you like a high risk pregnancy no matter what, and all the times I've gained monumental amounts of weight, I've been pregnant (except in the summer between jr. high and high school.) I just don't think i can do it again. My husband is three years older than me, and he's in disbelief that our youngest will only be 2 when he turns 40.

Rebeccah--thanks for the encouragement about the family. People on this thread really are great.

Chimboree--thanks for the calendar update--that's a lot of work!!

Best wishes to everyone going in tomorrow. I know Bobbert's Mom is going because I remember reading her post about the beers. Almost made me wish I drank.

Caolin - I am sorry to hear about your delay.

I actually signed on because I am pretty sure my date has been moved up from 7/31 to 7/12!!

I had my consult with the Dr and the Nutritionist today. In the middle of the call with the nut., my other phone rang and it was the office calling to tell me they had a cancellation and I could come earlier.

This is actually the date that I wanted originally and as soon as I hear from my best friend who is going with me that the new date will work, then it is a go.

It is kind of funny, I was not really nervous until the time came for the call with the Dr today. After that and finding out it might be sooner I am nervous but excited. It probably made it easier this past week to think I still had a month to go.

So, I went and had my last supper tonight, and onto a very low carb pre-op diet starting tomorrow. It was funny we went to pizza, a place that I love and with a crust that is soft and white and that I won't ever be able to have again, but hey, I will take thin and healthy over soft and white anyday!

I got home and was talking with a client on the phone who knew I had gone to dinner with a friend. They asked how my dinner was and I said it was really good. I think I almost seemed to enthusiastic, but couldn't explain why!

So, now I am on pins and needles waiting to hear back from my friend and be sure she can still do those dates. I hope so, I am ready to get this done!

Congrats to those who made it though today- sounds like you did a great job!

Good luck to those who are set for tomorrow!!

Jennifer

Oh, I forgot to mention that I spoke with my Dr today and he had no problem with me keeping my nails on and said toe nail polish is fine too!!

Good thing, that was something I was really worried about, sounds kind of silly, but I have had them on so long my real nails are paper thin underneath and would be very painful.

So, I was trying to think of what I should have my wonderfully talented nail tech put on my nails for the trip. I thought about a little lap band, but not sure how to explain that to others. She has done mickey mouse heads, hands and feet when I was going to disney, spiders and webs on halloween and all sorts of xmas decorations. So, if anyone has any great ideas, let me know. If I give her a picture of what I want, she can typically put it on my nails.

Jennifer

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
