Want to change surgeon

I'm new here but hoping someone can help me or give me some sound advice. I decided in Aug 2014 to have the bypass surgery as I read it can really help with diabetes which I was diagnosed with last year and now take 5 shots per day. I was familiar with the director of bariatric surgery of the local hospital as he had performed my colonoscopy last year. After attending his information class, I decided to proceed with the gastric bypass. I've completed all of his requirements then yesterday had another appointment with him hoping my package would now be ready to submit to the insurance company for approval. I've told him all along I neet to get this done by the end of the year since I've met my out of pocket maxium and because of my job. Our busy season starts January 1st and it's impossible to get PTO until June. He had previously said at my Oct appointment that if I was able to get everything done by the Nov appointment and assuming my insurance company doesn't take weeks to approve then I should be able to get it done by the end of the year. At my appointment yesterday he said he would review my paperwork at my Dec 11 appointment and I should have surgery in Jan or Feb. I left his office in tears! I'm ready to find another doctor!

Any advice would be very appreciated!

Sounds like good news for you. There's still 9 days in November so there is time for it to work out!

Keep us informed.

I got a copy of the psych report in the mail today!

Yay! Hope it all works out, looks like you'll be good for December :)

Dr found the H. Pylori bacteria in my stomach during my first EGD and I went on the antibiotics for 2 weeks. I just had my repeat EGD this morning and he said my stomach still looks pretty red. He took some biopsies but I guess it's not looking good for me, I might have to try stronger antibiotics.

I'm praying for good news but the important part is that I get rid of this before I have my surgery, so if I have to wait until next year I'll be ok with it. :)

But I was approved by Cigna this week so if the h pylori is gone I'm all set :D

Oh Brandyjune I am sorry to hear about the bacteria. Are you scheduled for another EGD? I am praying for you to heal quickly so you can get the surgery done...hopefully in December.

How long did it take for your insurance company to approve you?

@@ga_kathy it took only 3 business days to be approved by insurance. We submitted on Friday nov 14 and I called them yesterday and they told me I had been approved on Wednesday nov 19.

Thanks for your prayers they are so appreciated! :)

Oh and I don't have another egd scheduled yet just waiting to hear results from biopsies. The thing is during my last egd he was sure I had the h pylori and this time he couldn't tell, just told me my stomach still looked red and irritated.

I got my biopsy results on Friday and there was no Pylori. He was a little concerned about some gastritis that was in my lower stomach. But all is OK. Hope you'll be ok too BrandyJune.

Great news Kathy from Atlanta :)

Call him back and remind him of you dealine issues. He may not have made a note of that. Switching to a new doctor will only delay things further. If his schedule is full, ask him if he has a colleague who could do the procedure based on his notes.

Keep in mind some ins companies will take as much as 2 weeks to respond and that may push things close to the holidays. More importantly make sure you calmly explain the insurance issue.

About the same thing that is happening to me. It is highly likely that he is fitting in people who need to have it done by the end of the year due to insurance. I was devastated but now just watching the calendar.

Thanks Brandyjune, good luck to you as well. If I don't have the surgery this year I'll have to wait until at least June. I am excited yet not getting my hopes up too much. At least there is hope now. Where are you located? I'm outside of Atlanta GA.

. Hi ga_kathy I'm in Ga too Marietta. I'm having my surgery Dec 2nd

Hi Tamster01, wow I can't believe that we live so close to each other and we will both have our surgery in Dec, at least I think I will. my phone number is 770-331-6697 if you want to talk! We can be surgery buddies! I am waiting for insurance approval right now, my paperwork was submitted on 11/19 and I have a tentative date of 12/17. Are you on the liquid diet?

Well Happy Thanksgiving! I guess we still get to partake in Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. I plan to start my Protein "shakes only" on Monday 12/1. I have a co-worker Holiday dinner next Thursday. I plan to go but haven't fully decided how to handle it. Technically the dr told me a week of shakes, and I made the choice for the 10 days.
