Liquid Diet and changing tastes and ... well.... not caring about food in general..

Recommended Posts

Hello Sleevers,

I am coming up on my 1 week post-op of a band to sleeve revision. I've been following my post op diet with shall we say is a "reigious ferver". To be completey open, it isn't hard. I"m only drinking Protein Shakes (1 cup unsweetened almond milk and 1 scoop Protein powder). I use almond milk because real milk and soy milk upsets my stomach. The 1st few days, I could only get about a half cup of the Protein shake down in 1 sitting. Now, I can get an entire cup down, but it takes me about an our to do it. I'm full afterwards (about a 6-7 on the fullness scale) and don't crave or want anything else. About 3 days ago I started adding a 1/2 cup of Soups (wild mshroom and tomato) to my diet. I added them for a bit of a change. These are 2 soups I use to love. Now... meh... their OK I guess. Certainly nothng worth obsessing about.

I'm only drinking Water and a cup of coffee and am managing about 50- 60 ounces a day. I'm only interested in water, and not anything else that has flavor.

Here is what concerns me (well not exactly concern but certainly is a radical shift from my past feelings about food). I thought the post op diet would be hard like it was with my band. But now, I'm not really that interested in food. Since my Ghrllin levels have went down, I'm not hungry and don't really think about food. I'm just fine with staying on Protein shakes and really am not obsessing about eating solid food at all. It would be nice as achange... but it's just not something that I'm overly excited about or even think about at the moment. I think that even when I'm on solid food again, this is pretty much going to be the same. This is a complete 180 from what it was like before the band and with the band.

My question to those out there that have went through this, is, have you experienced this and does it eventually wear off to some extent or is this the way it is from now on?

Regards,

Babelfish5

Again, fairly new here, but I sense a couple of trends and have a question. I hear some people state they just can't get food down, and I can "imagine" that because your stomach has gone through a major reduction and takes time to heal and adjust. But the other scenario, where people mention that the taste of certain foods that they used to love just isn't there anymore. What would change the way you perceive the taste of foods? Is it more the texture and the thought of swallowing something with a certain consistency? Or is it really the actual taste? Me confused!

I'm not sure what has changed as far as taste. The things I do eat taste the same, it's just that the impact of the taste is much less. I think that's the best way of putting it.

My lack of hunger and lowered desire for food is my main question at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great. This is a complete 180 from where I was before. At the moment it's like food has absolutely no power over me at all.

I eat because I have to and not because I want to.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience and can shed some light on what I can expect next.

I go back and forth. Some days I could easily just do shakes and some days I want to eat, but still get full after a few bites. One scrambled egg with a bit of cheese and I'm done. The one thing that does concern me is I seem to be craving salt more. I was never a big salt eater. Didn't add it to my food and would buy no salt potato chips. No suddenly food will sometimes taste bland to me and I find I have to spice it up or add a bit of salt.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
