Not losing weight

Recommended Posts

I am so frustrated this morning. I am finally in the green zone over the past three weeks for the most part. I've had trouble eating but that was mostly swelling I assume at this point since I am able to get fish down. No chicken though. One week ago I was down 5 pounds and this morning now that I have eaten three or four legit meals I am up three.I haven't been able to work out at all really this past three weeks because I have been pretty weak from not being able to eat.I just don't understand what's going to take for me to see some results. I haven't even lost 20 pounds since May. I know everybody is different and the Green zone is different for everyone to but I'm pretty discouraged at this point and not really sure how I feel.like I want this thing to work and everyone around me is very supportive my boyfriend he thinks that I don't want this. Just because I don't work out regularly. I don't feel comfortable working out fully right now because I want to lose some more weight. I'm just so frustrated.obviously words of encouragement are great and all but I just don't get how I never lose weight. I.e. good I drink tons of Water I don't drink liquid calories I don't even eat red meat. I'm basically down to fish as my Protein. I don't eat bread I sometimes have mashed potatoes or baked potato. I am by no means perfect when it comes to eating but I know that I am trying and I do want this to work. I am counting my calories and I'm generally around 1000 a day. I should be losing weight. Right?

you are losing *inches*……aka current clothes getting bigger on you or having to buy smaller clothes, then you ARE losing regardless of what a stupid scale says or does not say

keep doing what you are doing

eating, drinking, moving/exercising

as its working..

sounds like you are doing great

Keep on doing what you are doing. I know we all want to get the weight off NOW, but I find it helpful to reframe this entire banded experience as a daily committment to my health. Not just to my losing weight, but my health, my feeling comfortable in the world, my mobility. It sounds like you are following band rules and your total daily calories are totally within weight-loss range (unless you are 4 feet tall :D) so I would say just keep on this way, enjoying all the good feelings that come from working this daily. Your body will eventually register the calorie deficit and catch up, I promise you.

Regarding working out, you don't have to do a whole big "work out" to get things going. Simple walking on a daily basis is great. If you can do a good 30 minute walk most days a week, I think you may start to see things moving. When the time comes that you're comfortable going to the gym; whatever you choose, then go. Exercise is half the battle. If you don't move regularly, you won't be happy (as you aren't now) with the progress.

Regarding not being able to eat, you should talk with your doctor. If you feel weak because you can hardly eat, then you may be too tight. Being too tight will also slow your weight loss. Maybe it's time to check back in with the team at your bariatric facility.

I wish you the best.... Hang in there....you will find your way.

You were just like me! But keep reading, there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Im sorry to here your frustration. We all have had our ups and downs for sure. I think my situation was pretty similar to yours. It took me forever to finally feel restriction and by the time I did, I had lost all the good habits I had practiced right when I got my surgery. The day of my 7th fill when I finally felt it, it was like a truck hit me! I was like "wait a second i don't like this!" But then I reminded myself that this was what I had prepared for but unfortunately because it took so long I forgot.

As far as being too tight. I think you sound ok. If you can get down solid Protein like fish then you should be fine, chicken can be iffy, most of the time if its tender it goes down but sometimes it doesn't.

Now as far as your weight loss, I will tell you what worked for me... As far as food goes, you sound like your on par with that. I try to keep mine around 1000 calories a day, and even if your not quite full, stop after 20 or so minutes and let it catch up. So great job with that! But as CRAZY as this sounds, even with a 1000 calories a day, you won't lose weight unless you get in 30 mins of light cardio a day because of that stupid thing we call metabolism. I chewed my doctor out 30 days after I was in green zone bc i hadn't lost a pound. I told him I'm only consuming 1000 calories a day! I should be losing, what is 30 mins on the treadmill really gonna do! Well out of desperation, I finally pulled my old bike out and started doing what he said. EURIKA! It finally all came together! The weight started coming off, and all i did was walk every night for 30 minutes!. I can tell bc the weeks i do it 5 to 6 times, I lose 2 to 5 lbs, but the weeks i get "busy" and only do it 2 or 3 times, i don't lose any :(. You don't want to really "work out" for hours at the gym though bc you might get burned out and not want to exercise the next day. Keep it light and consistent.

The nurse told me that under a "normal diet" 30 mins of walking or whatever might not make that much of a difference because it doesn't burn that much calories but we aren't really doing it to burn more calories ... all the 30 mins of movement is designed to do is to keep your metabolism from going into shock. You need to get your heart rate up for a good 30 mins and it works wonders! To this day, I have never stepped foot in the gym. I get on my bike and turn on food network "haha". Anyways I don't make up reasons for not doing it anymore... my husband and children know that every night at 8:30pm leave me alone for 30 minutes.

Moral of the story... 30 mins light cardio, as many nights as you can! If you do it 5 to 6 times a week no more, no less, you will be down 100lbs before you no it! Good luck girl!

Sound like your doing everything perfect! Except....... that dirty word we don't like to hear or talk about, (exercise)!!

I put it off and put it off till basically i was starving myself and still not seeing results. Finally my doctor had some tough talk with me and basically told me to not expect anything unless I start putting in the 30 mins. Well i finally did and after about the second week it starting coming off quite consistently.

Now let me say, don't go work your butt off at the gym. That sounds great and all but its probably just going to make you sore, or make you get burnt out... You have the band now, you don't have to go burn off 600 calories to lose weight. Just some basic walking, biking, swimming, or whatever. The key is just be consistent and make it apart of your new life. It take me 50 minutes to drive to work in the morning so I try to think of it like this... If all they are asking me to do is 30 mins which is 20 mins less than the time it takes to get to work... its really not that bad.

I can't urge you enough though be get in that 30 mins and keep at it. If you don't do it consistently you won't see any results... I know exercise might sound bad but i promise its the key to your success.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
