  1. 1. How do you approach Halloween and the candy that comes with it?

    • Allow yourself a single piece of candy because you look forward to it for weeks.
      3
    • Forbid yourself any candy because you know you can’t stop at one piece.
      14
    • Take charge of the decorations and costumes so you don’t have time to go for the candy.

    • Buy erasers, magnets, and other non-candy goodies instead of candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters.
      2
    • Give in. It’s only one night, and you want to enjoy it and fit in with your friends. Other. Explain in the conversation below!

    • Don't worry about it. Since weight loss surgery, you haven't been tempted by candy.

Halloween’s a scary time for weight loss surgery patients, and not just because of the witches and goblins in your neighborhood. The calories and sugar in Halloween candy can interfere with weight loss and give you dumping syndrome. How do you approach Halloween and the candy that comes with it?

I have to be really careful because it gives me horrible embarrassing gas. That keeps me from overdoing it.

Halloween isn't scary for me. I managed my diabetes for over a decade by avoiding sweets (and other simple carbs). Now it's a habit. I do allow myself sugar free treats, though.

I'm going to work late that night so I won't be home to give out candy. Since I won't be giving out candy, I won't need to buy candy and bring it into my house. Problem solved.

well, its my 30th wedding anniversary so i wont be (thinking of candy) LOL

but to me, candy doesnt do much

i eat some when/if i want it

3500 calories is a pound (ate or drank)

if one takes in more calories than ones burns off

they are going to gain (candy or slice cheese or steak or mcdonalds sweet tea etc)

i say have a couple and move on and BOO

It's garbage. Why would I put it in my body? I don't have a plan as any kind of processed, fake, no valuable nutrition foods are simply not a part of my food choices. I can barely make my grams of Protein and Water as itvis. Interestingly though, my children used to go trick a treating and enjoyed getting all that candy, but rarely ate much of it. After a few days I would take it to my job and within mins it would be all gone.

candy isn't a draw and wasn't even before WLS. Going to a party however. I'll need a plan for the food and drink.

I've been REALLY good for the past 5 1/2 months but I have been craving my fave candy bar which is Kit Kat but I KNOW I can only have a little bar (1/4 of the candy) and that's it. Looking forward to that treat. :)

We keep dark chocolate in the house and it astounding to me that I'm able to ignore it or, if I want some, have a small piece. The dimmed appetite is an amazing thing. As for Halloween, we live too far in the boonies for trick-or-treaters so I haven't been confronted with that for a while. I hate the commercialism and all the crappy candy. The high fructose corn Syrup and sugar industries sure love Halloween. They tell us to buy more more more and we do. Kids can't pay attention in school but hey, they've got a big bag of candy under the bed.

I'm planning to have one or two fun size candy bars from my son's bag and move on. It's not going to kill me and I don't feel bad about it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
