Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I've been spending a lot of time in Rants & Raves since I joined LBT, partly because it's fun, but also because for the most part it's very GLBT friendly. Unless I haven't looked in the right place, I don't think there's a support thread for us, so I decided to start one!

A little about me. I'm Eddie & I'm a 42-year-old Gay man. I have a partner of just over nine years (henceforth referred to as DH), a 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter. DH and I are stupid. Don't believe me, just ask our kids. DH has hypothyroidism and had not been able to lose any weight after his thyroid "went nuts" several years ago. I've just been overweight all my life. He was banded on 2/21/07 and I'm getting mine next Wednesday (5/16). I can't wait!

Anyway, I would love to hear from all the GLBT folks out there. Hopefully this can be a place for us to freely discuss our unique issues and get support we may not be able to get elsewhere.

I have been banded for 22 mos. and just now have lost 100 lbs. Yeah.:whoo: You have to remember that it is a tool that you need to learn to work with.

Michinger, sorry about the insurance, that really sucks. Hang in there.

Alright everyone, have a good week.

SWEET!! Keep us posted Stevee!

So we've heard from one of last week's new bandsters (how are ya feelin' Caresa?) but has anyone heard from Dana??

A cross post as per Eddie's request:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was just eating some scrambled eggs at work, at my desk, and the texture was off, too hard, so with out thinking I spit it back on to my plate.
I didn’t even think someone might be looking. The second the food hit the plate I look up with a line of spit from my lip still attached to the yucky little pile, just to catch a co-workers’ eye.
Nice.
That’s right, I might be getting all sexy-fine as another co-worker calls me. But that, that was really hot. I'm so proud.
Thanks Juli! Reading this post was the high point of an otherwise sucky day.
Hi everyone!
I hope you are all well. I haven't really been on LBT recently -- life has been crazy busy, but I wanted to check in and say hi.
Trisha, I am so sorry to hear about your denial. But I promise you, where there is a will, there is a way. My insurance wouldn't cover my surgery and I never thought in a million years that I would be able to afford it/get a loan. But things worked out and I was able to have the surgery. Yes, it was self pay, and yes, I am paying off a loan for the next 5 years, but it was 100% worth it. Do not let this get you down. Look at this as an opportunity to fight for what you need and want. You will make it happen.
Stevee, OMG OMG OMG, I cannot believe that your surgery is in 3 days!!!!! I'm so excited for you!
Juli~ Thanks for that sexy visual! So many people have troube w/ eggs...but your post made me giggle. I'll call you Thursday night, your number is in my cell.
xoxoxox everyone...have a great night.
Hi everyone!
Trisha, I am so sorry to hear about your denial. But I promise you, where there is a will, there is a way.
Thanks Lucy. I am not even close to giving up. I am more mad than anything. When someone pisses me off, they just make me more determined. I am 'thinking it into being'. Thanks for all the support!
Lucy keep in mind you might get most of it back from your taxes this year depending on your Adjusted Gross Income and the 7.5% on medical expenses.
Chris
i know i know i can't believe it either!!! its actually now in 15 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!! woooooooooooooo hooooooooooooo! i got my blood work done this morning. and weighed. and only lost 9 lbs on the pre op! which sucks but oh well every lil bit counts. i check in at 6 am... so ill get on here once i'm able to and give every one an update!
thanks to everyone in this thread for all the support!!!!!
ya'll are the best!
This was on my Marchies thread.
I suck at this weight loss thing. I've only lost 40lbs in 6 months. Gay. Granted, I may have gained a bit of muscle, but not THAT much. Again, gayArg.
This is what I posted:
"I'm gay and I'm losing weight pretty well."
Snotty?
Juli-
Love the response!
Snotty? I think not. But maybe it gave the poster some food for thought.
Speaking of food....I miss mexican. Only 3 more weeks of clear liquids.
