Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgendered Bandsters

I've been spending a lot of time in Rants & Raves since I joined LBT, partly because it's fun, but also because for the most part it's very GLBT friendly. Unless I haven't looked in the right place, I don't think there's a support thread for us, so I decided to start one!

A little about me. I'm Eddie & I'm a 42-year-old Gay man. I have a partner of just over nine years (henceforth referred to as DH), a 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter. DH and I are stupid. Don't believe me, just ask our kids. DH has hypothyroidism and had not been able to lose any weight after his thyroid "went nuts" several years ago. I've just been overweight all my life. He was banded on 2/21/07 and I'm getting mine next Wednesday (5/16). I can't wait!

Anyway, I would love to hear from all the GLBT folks out there. Hopefully this can be a place for us to freely discuss our unique issues and get support we may not be able to get elsewhere.

Anyone on GLBT have a myspace?

Yes, plus I hope to get my blog up and running soon.

CHRIS- Congratulations...hope they tell you something about you wife soon.

BTW...I thought this two week liquid diet was gonna kill me, but it has already been one week and I feel great. I have even lost 9 lbs so far. I hope this tread continues, at least for a little while.

Fortunately I didn't have to do liquids for 2 weeks. I'm not sure I would have had that kind of resolve...

I'm with you Eddie. There was no pre diet for which I was greatful. I take my hat off to those who do well with it. Edd, you rock!

i have myspace MySpace.com - www.myspace.com/230361199

all i have to do is book an upper GI then book my surgery!

Nice! That's great Stevee!

I have a myspace page, but I haven't been there in a very long time...

I just wanted to let you know that my wife and I have been approved for the Lapband surgery. We received word from the doctors office that she has been approved. So we get the letter will set a date. We are looking at being in bandland in September or October. This will depend on the doctors schedule and work schedule. My wife will go one week and then I will go the next week. The doctor has said that we would be good for the new Inmed AP Advance Band. I will keep everyone update as to when will have surgery. I would also like to thank everyone for all their help and advice over the years.

Thanks

Chris

Hi family,

Just dropping in for a quick minute while I'm here at work. Sean and I are leaving this afternoon for a mini-vacay to Chattanooga, TN. Just us, no kids! Woo hoo! So I may or may not be posting anything until Monday or so. Don't want anyone to think I'm MIA...

My wife is going to have her surgery on 9/12/07 and I will have mine on 9/19/07 both at 1:00 P.M. CDT in St. Louis. We start liquid diets 3 days before surgery.

AWESOME CHRIS...it looks like there will be several of us having them done in September.

Stevee...I am so glad to hear things are going good for you. You will have that surgery done and over with before you know it missy!

I'm one of those getting banded in September. Just got back from the doctor and he wants me to lose 10% of my weight by my surgery date, including liquids only 2 weeks prior...that's 28 lbs in 29 days...OMG!

He suggested eating only half of my regular portions. Trust me, that ain't gonna be enough...I'm not the quickest of losers. The most I've lost in a month is about 20 lbs, and that was quite a few years ago--losing has gotten slower as I've grown older! I'm sure, though, that doing liquids only for 2 weeks will speed up that loss.

Needless to say, tonight is the Last Supper.

Gotta blaze a path to the Precor in the other room and dust that puppy off!

oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!

surgery has been booked!!! its coming its coming!

Upper GI booked for Sept 11th and

SURGERY BOOKED OCT 4TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Flipper, you can do it! I have been on liquids for a week and lost 9 lbs. I know I am younger, but my mom who is 55 y/o lost 11 in one week on just liquids. Don't give up hope, you will be surprised what can happen.

Wow Stevee.....That's fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

Now you need to be concerned with not eating too many last meals...you don't want to gain before your surgery. And really, really REALLY, aside from carbonation there's nothing you won't be able to eat later. Not as much, but most things will go down if you chew well enough and take small bites.

CONGRATULATIONS!
