There are not a lot of AA women on the forum, but I have never seen any AA men. I am beginning to feel like I am the only AA man who has had sleeve surgery. I was sleeved on March 17, 2015. So, am one week post op. My surgery was a revision from the lap band. I would love to know about success stories from other AA men.

What Up, gresau1?

I had the sleeve done 1/27/2014, and reached goal on 8/20/2014...right now I'm in maintenance mode, trying to gain some more muscle now that I've lost most of my fat...please reach out to me if you have any questions or issues, since I'll be more than happy to share the experience. I had many, many questions along the way, and I'm more than willing to share any info I've gained!!!

@@Peekboo - One other thing. I change up and increase my calories according to my activity level. The menu I posted was a non gym day. I don't work so if I am running errands and going to doctor's appointments I tend to eat lighter.

Mind you all the things I am doing I have discussed and reviewed with my nutritionist. These are things that work for me.

Hello all NYC here i have not posted in awhile. I have been going thru testing and my six month weigh in requirement. Im finally coming to an end of it next month. It's been a long road. My papers should be submitted to insurance this month. I'm hoping for my surgery in May I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I just have a question for my AA sisters. Loose Skin. I'm totally afraid of it. I have full boobs and butt. I would hate to lose that. Is there anyway around that after surgery. For the people that had their surgery how did the skin issue work for you .

Good Evening All,

I'm currently pre-op and on month 3 of the 6 month process required by insurance to approve the surgery.

Is anyone insured with United Healthcare? How long did it take for them to approve your surgery after all of your info was sent. What are the requirements for approval by your insurance company?

I have United and blue cross blue shield. United was faster with approval. My nurse said it normally had a two week turnaround. I new in 6 days.

My requirements was 6 month diet history, nutritionist, and for my facility to be center of excellence. Oh and you had to have a certain BMI or a BMI with a co morbidity. I had a BMI over 50.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
