I'm so ready for this :-) How long is everyone staying in the hospital. My surgeon usually doesn't do an overnight. I think it's strange. What do you all think?

My surgeon says overnight. I don't know that I would be comfortable coming home the same day. I live alone, so I feel better be cautious.

I do think that's odd. I'm staying two nights since I'm out of town but as far as I know no matter what every one has to stay at least one night.

My surgery coordinator told me that I could stay overnight if I would feel more comfortable and I think that's what I'm going to do. My surgeon is right here in town they said you rest better when you're at home but I want to be in the hospital because I'm nervous. I would be happier with two nights really. Thanks for the quick reply.

My surgeon requires an overnight stay. I check in the morning of surgery and they plan to keep me until dinner the next day to make sure I'm able to get pureed food down safely and get my liquids in. If there's trouble then you stay longer.

I have a pre-op meeting on 29 September and I'll ask a lot of questions then. I definitely want to stay overnight and will push for that so we'll see what happens if I have to find a different surgeon or reschedule I'll do that.

I really think everyone should stay over night. I mean no matter how it's done it is a major operation. Plus what if you get sick or something. I think one night probably two is the best for anyone just my opinion though :)

Hey Peekaboo, if your surgeon doesn't require you to stay overnight make sure you feel totally comfortable before leaving. Whether you're on a liquid or pureed diet you should be able to get your Protein down comfortably. And you should request to be evaluated after a couple of hours of intaking your diet.

You will be fine but you have to make sure you advocate for your needs. My doctor will be performing a series of test the day after my surgery and making sure I'm able to keep my liquid diet down without any trouble.

Remember to Advocate For You!!!

Haha yeah I'm less than a month away I'm freaking out too! We just have to think about the long term though. It's a small time to be sore and a lifetime of being healthier. We'll get through it and be healthy and smokin' hot in no time!!!

I've actually been losing sleep thinking about how the surgery will go but I'm sure it will be fine. Thank you all for the comforting comments.

My surgeon says two nights (surgery Tues the 21st, home Thurs the 23rd). I asked if I could leave the next day and he just said "well, I don't know that yet. Depends on how you do." So we will see!! Good luck!! :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
