my biggest fear is hunger

Some on here talk about getting hungry. I thought that you were not supposed to get hungry as your stomach is so much smaller. I think that is only the one problem I have. How will I handle it and can I resist temptation ?

I have wanted this for so long and now it is going to happen. I know I have to keep positive, but feel going into this feeling this way is a detriment and I have to get over it. Will appreciate any advice or comments

At 7.5 months out I can say that I get hungry, but that it is greatly reduced from before surgery and does not create significant problems for me. I would love to hear from people that are 1 - 3 years out, though.

Hello. I was sleeved on Aug 11th. Yes, you get hungry. I was afraid of this too. But, you figure out that just a few sips of a Protein shake and the hunger goes away for a bit. I'm sure its more of an acid adjustment type thing rather than real hunger. I realize now it was a waste of energy to worry about the hunger pre-surgery. Its just part of the ride. You will figure out how to deal with each obstacle you face and you will be fine. You learn to go slow and take small sips because if you don't then you will have to deal with nausea and possibly throwing up or just that over stuffed feeling. When I sip now...2 or 3 sips, my stomach sounds like a one man band!....but it tells me to stop and wait a few minutes to let that settle. Its just a process of figuring out what works for your body. I was told everyone is different because swelling and healing after surgery varies. So, good luck. No worries!

Almost 15 months out here and I would say that YES, you do get hungry again. It's natural and it's ok. The hunger is different for me and much more manageable. It's no longer the constant buzzing craving that couldn't have possibly been physical hunger because I rarely denied myself food. Now it's a physical sensation and while it can be really intense, especially after a big workout or if I've gone far too long without food, it's so much easier to control.

I am forced to slow down and can only eat 2-4oz, less than a cup of food. I have to make good choices, especially when I am very hungry, because if I make bad choices and eat too fast, I am physically sick instead of feeling fueled. Over the last year+, I have learned my physical eating limits and my "full" indicators (runny nose, need to burp) and know when to stop. I have learned that if I eat quickly, I can only eat about half of what I should be able to eat. I have also learned if I eat too much, I will not be able to have even a sip of liquid for an hour or more and I hate that.

It's going to be OK. :)

Ditto to everything lipstick lady said. I'm just over 7 months out, and I definitely get hungry, but it's easy to satisfy. I try to eat every 3 hours or I get REALLY hungry and then it's hard to eat slow. Just this week I downloaded the "eat slow" app to time my bites. I don't use it for every meal, but I kick it on for those times I'm starved and would otherwise eat too much too fast and be uncomfortable.

Hello. This is a common fear. I asked my MIL yesterday if she get hungry. She had the RNY in 2011. She said that she does get hungry but it is not like pre-surgery. It could be lunchtime before she will get that way. She said if that is the case, she would treat it as Breakfast time. A lot of times she will have to remind herself to eat.She can only have around 1/2 cup depending on what it is.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
