September surgery

Recommended Posts

I am excited. The nervous part hasn't hit me yet...but I know if probably will. Sadly I'm not scared of surgery but being away from my son for a few days. The thought is killing me already. :(

What is everyone's requirements for their fast?

My endoscopy is today. My last big hurdle to get through before surgery on the 3rd. I'm a bit nervous as I've never had one before.

Hi. I'm confused by everyones post referring to a liquid diet prior to surgery. I have not heard of that & that makes me nervous since my surgery is scheduled for September 17th. My psyche appt is next Tuesday & my preop is September 9th. The main reason I wanted to write a post is because I have to lose 10 lbs prior to surgery. I have in 3 weeks lost 7 lbs. So excited & proud of myself & even though this surgery has been a long time coming, could I do this on my own? I know the answer to that, but is anyone else having a similar experience? My family questions my choice & I'm looking for some support. Thank you, Sarah

People who don't struggle with their weight or have never crossed the threshold into obesity can't understand what we go through. They think, just go on another diet and try harder. It's not that simple. By now, I've tried every diet you can think of and a lot of them worked. But, I always gained the weight back and then some. I knew I needed this to finally be successful. My fiancé doesn't get it. He supports me 100%, but admits he doesn't understand why I'd go to such measures. It's because he's never struggled with his weight. There is a scientific reason why obese people have such a hard time losing weight and keeping it off, but I can't explain it in words that make him understand. I'm going to take him to a support group meeting and see if that helps him understand a little better.

Bottom line, not everyone is going to "get it" and may not support your choice. All you can do is trust your decision, stick to the post op guidelines and show yourself that this was the best decision for you. Maybe after they see how good you are doing and feeling, they'll come around.

The actual Upper GI wasn't bad however the prep was awful. My nurse had trouble doing the IV. I passed out for the first time in my life and I still have quite a bit of pain from her trying to get it in. Luckily her 2nd attempt in a different location was successful.

I just got my date. It's September 29th. I feel the same as many others are feeling right now. I'm excited to finally have a surgery date after that long process.

I got my bariatric samples by emailing everyone on this thread: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/261167-list-of-bariatric-nutritional-companies-offering-free-samples/

Some said no, but lots sent some really great stuff. I've also ordered sample packages for aobut 10 dollars from Chike nutrition and powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. I want to order some of the nectar samples as well. :)

My liquid diet is two weeks, starting next Tuesday. NO coffee. Ahhhhh! It's so silly, but that's the thing I'm worried about most!

CrashNCamsMom - I read something recently that explained very well the progressive nature of obesity and how just dieting makes matters worse. If you go to http://asmbs.org/patients/disease-of-obesity and scroll down to the bottom for the section titled "Diets" - it gives a really clear scientific reason why once we get to a certain point, it becomes almost bioogically impossible to lose and keep off the weight (without surgical intervention.)

This is my primary reason for having weight loss surgery - I have yo-yo dieted for so long that I now gain weight at a much lower calorie level that ever before and I am terrified at the thought that I would very likely gain it all back and more if I went on yet another diet to try to lose the 150 lbs I need to. A few years ago, I lost 92 lbs by following a diet religiously - didn't cheat one single bite in over a year and a half - only to start gaining weight back while I was eating only about 1000 calories a day! There was nothing as disheartening as that - to know that in spite of my very best efforts, I could not get & keep my weight under control.

I desperately need to break this cycle and drastically change the way my body processes food or I will continue to have more and more health problems. I am so grateful to finally have an opportunity to do something that will give me a much higher chance of success. And I am really excited to get this show on the road!

I will have my surgery in October I hope. My surgeon is not requiring me to do a pre-op diet. So you should check with your surgeons office to see what they require for you. Good luck!

Im hoping to get a date in September. I have my psych evaluation next Friday then my surgeon will submit my paperwork to the insurance company for my revision from lap band to rny. Onced approved the only thing left is the pre-op class. The surgeon said he antcipates a quick answer due to medical necessity.

Im soooo ready, I already have a bag packed, lol. Good luck to everyone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
