@@tammygRN, how are you doing? How did your conversion surgery go?

Had my rouxen-y conversionMonday the 10th. Unfortunately I am posting this 9 days later from my hospital bed. I had a very small undetected leak and the second night post op, I went into septic shock. I was rushed to surgery where they cleaned out all of the toxins that had leaked into my abdomen, but they were unable to locate the leak and I wasn't stable enough to continue with surgery. They stabilized me in the ICU and the next day was taken for an open laparotomy where the leak was found and fixed. I spent 6 days in ICU. I have 2 drains, one is for the infected abdominal cavity and the other is a G-tube which is just draining gastric bile. Once the output slows on the drainages we can take the JP out and the G tube can be used for nutritional support if needed. I am getting a little stronger each day through the grace of god .

Tammy, I have been praying so hard for you every day. I really mean that. I hope that you find the physical, mental and spiritual strength to continue to fight as hard as you can. I believe wholeheartedly that this experience will be over soon and you will be on your way to a much healthier and happier life. I am so, so sorry you have had to go through this. I can't imagine what you and your family are going through. Please keep us posted.

Hi Tammy. I am so glad they found the leak and have fixed it with the Roux en Y. Now it will take time to heal and then you most likely will be on your way to good health and well being.

Attitude is 50 % of the healing process. So please keep a positive attitude as you go through recovery. I know the drill all to well myself and know that it can be so disheartening when you know others have gone through WLS with little or no complications. I believe it makes us appreciate our journey in a way that some can never understand and it makes us stronger people when it does not come easy....

Please take the time you need to heal Tammy. Your body has been through a lot. Go easy on your new Roux en Y. I am so happy that you are getting better. It makes me cry when others suffer severe complications when the decision was made to better your life.

You got this Tammy. You are very strong!

Jane

Here's a new update. I went home from the hospital Friday, and over the weekend became very short of breath. Monday I was readmitted. I had a moderate amount of Fluid in around my right lung which was compressing my lung causing a partial collapse. They also discovered that I have extra fluid in the the sack around my heart. Yesterday they drained my lung which gave me immediate relief with my breathing. Right now the cardiologist is just going to keep a close eye on my heart to ensure it doesn't worsen. All of this extra fluid is from when I went into septic shock, they had to resuscitate me with so much fluid it just collected everywhere. Also yesterday I found out that due to my nutritional status, I am in liver disease. Today we started tube feedings through my G-tube. Hopefully this will improve my nutrition until I get get it my oral intake up. You know...... It just seems statistically impossible that one person would have this many complications. I am over 5 months out from my initial surgery and still going through this. Everyone pray I get to go home tomorrow to Celebrate thanksgiving with my family. God bless you all.

Oh my poor dear! I am in shock you have been endearing all these complications! I pray to god you will heal properly & get to go home with your family tomorrow. It sounds like you'd still be in icu. I haven't had the surgery but I've been considering it. Hearing about your situation makes me so scared. I have a baby under 1 & he needs me home. Keep positive! Things have to only go up from here right!? I hope so! God Bless you sweetheart. Hang in there!

I agree, its almost incomprehensible to have so many complications! But then again, we know how one thing leads to another. Either way, I hope and pray you are at the end of that and will now heal and enjoy life and health again. I also will pray that you are well enough to go home tomorrow!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
