THE LIQUID DIET COMPLAINING/SUPPORT LOUNGE

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 days into my 2week liquid diet. I've found that I prefer the taste and texture of Jay Robb protein(I found it at whole foods, but you can order it online too). I like to mix PB2 with the chocolate and I like to mix in sugar free pudding flavors like banana(with the chocolate) or pistaschio(with the vanilla)! I also add extract flavors for a few different tastes, like Almond Joy and Root Beer float(without adding any soda)! I do tolerate the unjury unflavored with broth.

So ready to have my surgury so I don't feel hungry all day every day! Haha, I know a lot of it is in my head, but if I don't keep myself busy I go crazy!

I just want a burger. That's it. Then I can die happy. The urge to hit a drive thru on the way home was absolutely crazy but I did. Doesn't feel like a victory though.

It's day four, and I don't feel terrible. Just somewhat fuzzy-brained & fatigued with a minor headache and still feeling hungry every night at bedtime (takes a bit longer to fall asleep).

I'm on day 13 (surgery is Monday yay!) and it does get much easier. The first few days were a little tough mentally, but I knew I had enough fat around my body to keep me going. I did tone down the exercise a bit and drank alot of fluids, but my appetite actually adjusted and now I quite like the feeling. It's almost like a cleanse.

Also, losing 12-13 lbs in two weeks helped more than a bit with morale. :)

Hang in there everyone!

I'm on day two. I am on a strict menu. It's six Opti-Fast shakes and one Protein bar a day. Soup, Jello, nothing else is an option. Except I'm allowed to have sugar-free, caffeine-free, calorie-free liquids (which also means taste-free). I have a slight headache, but my energy level is okay. I made pizza and tacos for the kids today. Everything looks twice as delicious as usual, so I've been doing the Jedi Mind Trick on myself.

"These are not the meals you are looking for--move along. Drink a shake."

And it's been working.

I'm on day 6 of 7 for my pre-op diet. It hasn't been easy...but as this is more restrictive than the post-op diet, I know if I can stick to this, I'll be fine after surgery :). I've got my mind set on my goal, and I've stuck to the pre-op diet 100%!! I went to the movies with my daughter today and didn't sneak even one kernel of popcorn! I usually have four Protein Drinks per day, alternating sweet shakes with the Unjury chicken Soup. I also treat myself to a sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicle in the evening. It's tough, but, it's been better than I thought it would be. Drinking lots of Water, Decaf tea, and chewing sugar free gum have helped me a lot!. I just keep reminding myself that this part is temporary, and all a part of my new life! I've lost 10.2 lbs on the pre-op so far and that has really helped motivate me to keep strong! :) My surgery is less than 48 hours away, and I can't wait!!'

This diet is killing me. I have the headache, and the grumps, and the tiredness, and I would seriously consider smacking my own mama with a brick for a cheeseburger. I've lost 15 pounds so far, so at least there's that. My surgery is Tuesday, and I am so ready to be over this pre-op stuff.

I slipped up today and just started nibbling. This was though after I had to go to urgent care for a Migraine. It was so easy to keep going and I didn't even enjoy the food. I got serious issues.

One week to go! I am proud of myself (and all of you) for getting this far. It's not my favorite diet, but it will be over soon.

I had a hard time finding a Protein Shake I liked. I did strawberry with vanilla soy milk. That tasted good for a while then it started to make me gag. I bought some unflavored Protein Powder to add to Soups, but it makes it clumpy. I do like adding it to pudding. ????

I'm on day two of my pre-op diet and it suckkks! I'm actually not all that bothered by hunger or not eating regular foods, I just hate the Protein Shakes that my doctor uses (Bariatric Advantage). They are so sickly sweet and taste like artificial sweetener. I'm jealous of everyone who gets to choose their powder! I actually bought some low sodium vegetable broth because I can't hack six meals of sweetness a day. Hopefully that's not a terrible diet deviation (it has basically nothing in it!)

Am on my second month of "pre-op" diet and no date set yet. I still have a mandatory 4# left to lose. Had to cut out all bars and my once daily Protein food for more nasty shakes. Getting discouraged a bit. Have to make weight by Monday so he will schedule me. God give me strength.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
