I wasn't trying to lose weight for like 2 months and my BMI went to 39 (I was interested in the surgery and knew for my insurance to approve it, I have to be a BMI of 40) when I went for a physical, my doctor was trying to convince me that surgery isn't the answer and when my results came back, i am JUST under being pre-diabetic. I think my levels were 5.9 and pre-diabetic is 6.0 She put me on a weight loss pill and I lost about 6 pounds but in my head still, I want the surgery. I've been trying to lose weight for about 2 months and have only lost 6 pounds and have struggled with my weight for about 11 years. What made you guys say the surgery was the right thing for you? I'm afraid if I allow myself to gain more weight, than I really will become a pre-diabetic. Any advice? If it helps, I'm 5'2 and 206lbs.

I am still preop, have surgery next Thursday, but like you, my provider tried to give me pills because of her personal feelings about WLS. I took the pills.. lost 30 pounds.. felt like crap all the time.. couldn't sleep, mouth was always dry and one day (last day I took them) had blurred vision while driving on the freeway to work.. Oh and started gaining days after I stopped taking them. If you know that this is something you want, then see another doctor. I did.. I actually just mentioned it to my new dr during a visit he was having with my husband lol and once I knew he was on board, I changed over to him. Good luck :)

I'm only 15 lbs lighter than you but Im 5 ft tall. My BMI is around 35-36. I am booked for sept 4 th in Mexico

I'm not heavy enough to qualify for surgery where I live so I am payiny for my own surgery.

My desidion has come down to the fact that I have carried 50 extra lbs for the past 35 years. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I was thin.

I'm now 48 and im really feeling the extra weight. My knees ache, I snore horribly and I have zero energy or stamina.

I have done every weight lose program out there. shakes, pills, needles, you name it! I've lost 40-50 lbs but always gain it back and am now higher than have ever been. I'm scared I'm getting really close to 200 lbs and have decided I cannot continue this cycle.

Im nervous but anxious to get started!

If you can honestly look at yourself and know you have done everything you can to lose weight the I say go for it! Whether you have to lose 50 or 200 the struggle is the same! The negative self talk, starvation and the feeling of failure is so defeating! Good luck!

But if you won't need diabetic meds & diet pils, how will she make money off you??

Jk, kinda.

There are a lot of PCPs that just don't agree with weight-loss surgery. Mostly because they've seen the worst. (For instance, I had zero complications & am otherwise healthy after losing weight-- so my doc doesn't see me but once a year for a thyroid level. However, she sees ppl who are having complications, pain, and struggling with medical management much more often... So what do you think sticks in her head more??... The complications.)

I knew surgery was the right thing for me because-- I just couldn't do it on my own. I know some would roll eyes at this. But honestly, I tried. And tried. And tried. I did the diet, exercised, drank pink stuff, counted carbs & cals, calculated points, ans took the magic pills... Nothing. Well, maybe 30 lbs or so, but I wanted to lose more than thirty lbs. I didnt want to go through all that and still be +80 lbs overweight.

It was (for me) the best decision ever!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
