Your doing just fine, I was in the same boat,I I am only about one week ahead you you, it gets better each Day

Post-op day five and I'm hoping the incision pain gets better soon. I practically have to give myself diarrhea (TMI, sorry) in order to have a BM cause it's too painful to push. This may sound crazy to some, but I'm so looking forward to the puree stage so I can get more Protein in with less volume. It takes me 4 hours to get down a smoothie of Greek yogurt and a half cup of milk. I feel I spend all day trying to get my Protein in that it doesn't leave much time for fluids. One thing I'm super happy about is that I've lost 4.5 lbs since surgery day. Wishing everyone a speedy recovery!

@@Karen Scott What is your pre op like? what can you have now? Ive been on pre-op for about 4 weeks now and Im actually being more strict than the dr requested I be... Im a bit neurotic about shrinking my liver... Ive had a couple episodes over the past four weeks with hunger - but I have identified - by journaling - my target TIMES of the day that I start feeling that hunger - then I set an alarm on my phone to ring about half hour before that regular hunger time - and I have a Jello or a yogurt or something that is allowed before I would feel that hunger. That has worked for me. Now what I AM having a problem with is my cheese craving - I dont crave any carbs or sweets... I crave cheese... its crazy!

Who really said the pre op diet gets easy. It does not. I am (crying) hungry. Omg my surgery is not until Wednesday morning. Wat can I do guys any response would help.

Hey Karen,

I know what you are going through. It is not fun at all. Okay this is what I did to get through it when I could not take another Protein drink..... I ate a can of tuna, with a little salt and pepper. Tuna is almost pure protein. It was what got me to the finish line. It did not hurt my weight loss, and if you look at the number a can of tuna has less calories and more protein then one of the Protein Shakes. I am not telling you to go against your doctors orders, but want you to make it to the finish line. I talked with my surgeon, and he agreed with me that it was a good option when you just need to chew something. Good luck and I used can chicken breast also. Just keep it very lean protein.

Take care,

Laura

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. Sleeve surgery is 8/28. I am 63 and can not believe I am going to let someone remove 3/4 of my stomach and risk all the complications because I can not control my weight! I have lost 25 lbs in the last 6 months and wonder if I should just cancel the surgery and see what happens in the next 6 months. I am currently 225 and have all the obese related diseases. I am not frightened about the surgery, just everything that comes after. I think if I did not have to wait so long for the operation day, I would have gone ahead with it. I just want to run away and forget all of this.

my pre op consists of 3 shakes and 2 100 calorie yogurt and fluids. Tell me if that's not starvation. Lol. I miss chewing. But hanging on. Telling myself a couple more days. Thnx

my husband who is definitely not a doctor told me to do that. But wen u read some posts that says their liver didn't shrink I am afraid I won't be successful.

Four weeks is a looooong time to be on that pre-op diet. So you had a tough row to hoe.

But the big day is almost here. As you said -- just two more days! Hang in there.

I know what you mean, I'm in the same age bracket and I'm losing on the pre-op diet, so maybe wait? But, I've been here before, I've lost count of the times I started a diet with a bang, and 8- 10 months later I'd be back to where I started. So I'm looking at this like I don't have that many years left to play with, so let's fix this problem once and for all so I can enjoy the rest of my life whether it's 5 years, 15 years, 20 years, or more (hopefully). And, don't forget, those co-morbidities don't go away and stay away unless you can keep the weight off. Does that help?

My surgery is Wednesday and I haven't done the best with this pre-op diet of liquids only... I've lost 12 lbs... I'm hoping that if I am really strict the next few days, all will go well. I've read where different people have different kinds of pre-op diets.. I work 3rd shift and some nights I feel like I have to binge to stay awake... I have to work the night before my surgery, which will be hard with nothing to eat or drink after midnight. I have to be at the hospital at 10:45 am, my surgery isn't until 12:45... Any advice?!

Am I the only one that didn't really have a preop diet? My surgery is on Friday and I only have to do liquids only for wednesday and thursday. Its so amazing to me that some of you have had to do a MONTH of that!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
