Post surgery bowel movements?

Recommended Posts

Hello sleevers,

HW-293

SW-281

CW-275

I just have a quick question, how long after surgery does it generally take for your first bowel movement? I was sleeved on Friday 6/27. I started my post op diet including 4oz Protein shakes on my 1st full day home from the hospital.

I feel great very sore (had a severe hiatal hernia repair also), so I'm experiencing painful burps. All in all I'm happy with my decision.

Thanks

AnEMal

I was at day 5 before my first BM post-surgery. I had just gotten the approval from my surgeon to take Colase to help things along when it suddenly became unnecessary. If you're worried, check with your doctor and they can tell you what, if anything, to take to kickstart your bowels.

Mine was day 6 or so. I was advised to take Miralax because I was nervous of being poisoned! But it turns out the pain pills were the culprit, plus "low residue" diet aka no solids in no solids out. Ive read in other posts to keep your doc posted and if its less than day 10 don't worry too much.

Mine was day 6 or so too (and felt not-so-good on it's exit!) - and that was with taking a dulcolax gel every day! I still do that, but I swear i'm lucky if I have a bowel movement even once a week. I know there's fewer calories going in and less waste created, but it surprises me still not to have that more regularly (no pun intended). But as far as post-op, that's totally normal, don't sweat it unless you're feeling constipated or in any pain - in that case call the doc as soon as possible in case you have to wait for something.

Plan on 5 days for the first. Its taken me about 4 weeks to kind of be regular. I still go sometimes for 3 days without and then have a couple of good days. I feel adding oatmeat to the diet helped.

It has been over 8 days for me. It feels like a baseball wants to pass and nothing. I have tried miralax and nothing. I called the doc today and now I am getting suppositories.

Pear Juice! Just drink it. I get it from the baby food aisle. I drank 4-8oz then if nothing - another 4 oz the next day and BAM!!

It was 4 days before I started getting worried

I had a csection 16 years ago and was impacted pretty badly.

I did a couple tablespoon prune just and equal part Water. Sipped for few hours Saturday and Sunday around noon I was clear. Yay

I was consistantly running to the toilet until I got onto pureed foods. Now I'm wondering when I'm going to go. I've tried stool softeners and that hasn't worked well. And when I've gone, it's like a lot of work for what comes out. I'm thinking of trying Milk of Magnesia as well. ugh

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
