6 weeks out - stalled for last 3 :(

Recommended Posts

Morning sleevers! So i've been a silent follower for the past few months - but have really started getting disheartened about this darn stall, so decided to reach out to you guys for some advice.

The facts:

  • Highest pre-surgery weight (10 weeks ago): 226
  • Day of surgery weight (6 weeks ago): 213
  • Today's weight: 201

I know I'm down 25 pounds from my highest weight & that wouldn't have happened without this surgery. But I haven't seen the number go down in over 3 weeks! I was ready for the stall, I read about it, I knew it was coming - but when the heck will it leave? I want to start losing again already!

The reality:

  • I was BLESSED! No complications from surgery. 2 weeks think liquids, then 2 weeks soft/pureed foods and then that was it. I could eat anything after that. No issues with acid, slime, any of that.
  • I can't eat a lot, but I do eat little meals (up to 5) throughout the day
  • I'm guilty of not getting enough Protein in - i was so good with the shakes pre-op because i would just chug them. Because I can't chug now, I just can't stand them!
  • I try to get all my Water in - but usually only get in half of what i'm suppose to

I know folks are probably going to tell me that I need to get in more protein/water/exercise - but shouldn't I be losing weight just because I'm eating so much less?

I AM SO AFRAID THAT I WILL BE THE PERSON THIS SURGERY DOESN'T WORK FOR!!!

I understand you concern. Know that no matter how long the stall, it is a certainty that you will continue to lose weight.

It does seem unusual that you're stall has lasted this long. There are some very good explanations on how a stall can be related to Water retention. Google is your friend.

Protein/walking/nutritionist blah blah blah.

I would suggest you only weigh yourself one per week though. You may drive yourself crazy if you are checking everyday.

You should be able to eat soft foods now. Take a look at what you can eat (check with your nutritionist or doctor). This could help with weight loss. http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html#.U5cUk8rn-Io

You might want to have a blood panel done to see if there are any irregularities.

One more thing to check is your measurements. Perhaps you aren't losing weight but you may be losing inches.

I am about 8wks out. im down 38lbs and have been at the same weight for about 2 weeks now. I know I have lost a lot for only being less than 2 months out of surgery but I agree, a stall at any time can be frustraing. I follow my nutrition plan to the tee and work out 3 to 5 times a week. I decided to go back to basics and read over my materials I was given before surgery and also take a look at what im consuming. I realized im consuming too much sodium and not enough Water to flush the sodium. Im hoping decreasing the amount of sodium in my diet and increasing the amount of water per day will help me get over this hump. I know this stall will let up! we just have to give it time and stay P O S I T I V E ;)

I will be 4 weeks post op and Wednesday and have been at a stall since the beginning of week 2. I have been shooting for 70g of Protein per day. I got on the scale today and finally 2lbs gone. Are you tracking your food? You gotta get the protein in. Helps with healing. I am on soft foods and use my shakes as a Snacks. I struggle with the Water but I push as much as I can. We WILL get there!

Thanks guys. Word of encouragement help - but stalls STINK!!

Will try and get more protein/water in to see if that helps budge the needle on the scale.

I've been having major issues getting enough Protein and Water. I feel like I've been dehydrated for almost 8 weeks. I try to drink but I have such a hard time getting it down. Same with protein, my tastes have changed and getting protein down has been a nightmare. I went back to work and have been more active than I was recovering and have done nothing but gain weight. My job is very active and I have been light headed and felt weak. My breaks are short so I try to eat and then I feel sick because I'm rushing. The recovery was harder than I anticipated. I wish I could see what people were eating that gave them all their protein, I need ideas.

For my protein, I eat eggs, refried Beans, cheese sticks (sometimes wrapped in a slice of light deli ham or turkey if it's a meal rather than a snack), salmon or fish in general, a bit of chicken, quinoa (sometimes a tbsp as a side dish if I'm still hungry after my meat portion at dinner). I currently don't eat anything (other than the SF popsicles, which count as a liquid) that doesn't have protein in it, because I just don't have the room.

I hit between 45 and 60 grams of protein daily at 5 weeks out, which the doctor said is fine at this point. He is more concerned with me staying hydrated and said the protein will come as I'm able to eat more food (and he said VERY firmly to not rush this point but take it very slow...which is okay with me)

My sleeve doesn't tolerate milk products or Greek yogurt, but it's fine with cheese (but not cottage cheese. It just tastes funky post-surgery. I loved it pre-surgery). Protein shakes make me gag because they're so sweet...although I did okay with the Chike coffee protein when I was still full liquids.

For more protein/recipe ideas, check out According to Eggface or the Bariatric Foodie. They have a lot of suggestions (that's where I go to look for recipes)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
