Unthinking friend

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I was blown over last weekend! I saw a friend I hadn't seen since last summer. Its a summer community where we all grew up. It's been almost two years since my surgery. I'm down 110 pounds and in a size 4. So what did my friend say to me? "I saw a really fat woman swimming in the ocean and I was so worried you had gained back all the weight" did she say it once, which I guess I could deal with. No, she said it 3 times! It continues to stagger me how thoughtless people came be sometimes!

everyone has a ass hole....and apparently this lady had a serious case of diarrhea of the mouth that day...just remember to always rise above what people say and the no comment back to such things to me speaks volumes....well done on the weight loss GF.....i think i was a size 4 once in my mom's pregnant stomach .........oh the memories

I've had one similar comment about regaining weight but not anywhere near as rude as that. At the time I felt as though the person was trying to put the gain-back whammy on me! I was very PO'd. If you see this "friend" again I would be very direct and say you find that sort of comment very offensive and on multiple levels. No need to be abrasive but she may just be clueless, and needs educationg. Congrats on your success! Own it!!

I second all the above comments ! I would of pointed out that she was being insenisitive and rude, but in a very polite way. If she said it again, I would ask her how she would feel if you made a rude comment out loud several times about HER body. Sometimes thats a game changer ! Also, she seemed more concerned that you might have gained the weight back then for your safety swimming in the ocean ! That part was rude too ! She sounds very unaware of how her running off at the mouth offends people ! That being said, congratulations on your weight loss, you should be very proud of yourself ! YOU ARE AWESOME !!!!!!!!

Jealousy us an ugly green monster! There are people out there who only feel good about themselves, or at least less insecure, when they try to bring down those around them. This is why most of us hated junior high!

When I hear tide negative things said to myself or others I always try n remember the source some people are just so miserable and unhappy in their own lives they like to spew it out.

You sometimes cannot fix Stupid but you can tell them to STFU. I am a very direct person and if anyone was that rude to me I would fix it. I have noticed that there are so many rude people in the world lately. I am amazed at how little these people care about other people's feelings. But, Karma is a B .

I agree with Ziggy. That was pure D jealousy. She wants you to get heavy again. That wasn't insensitity...she knew what she was saying.

Can you tell I'm in therapy....LOL!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
