PCOS, Sleeve, Pregnancy

Recommended Posts

I am 37 years old with PCOS. My sleeve surgery is in July. Is it too late to get pregnant at 38? I'd have to wait a year post surgery. Have any of you had successful pregnancies following sleeve and being of an "advanced" pregnancy age?

I had a baby at 36 and one of my best friends is pregnant right now and she's 38 :) I had no issues at all with my pregnancy. I too have PCOS and it took me 5 years to get pregnant with my first and another 3 to get pregnant with my 2nd, both pregnancies happened after weight loss.

Good luck!

Wow! So many women and doctors make it sound like it will be a piece of cake after surgery to get pregnant. I'm sorry you had to wait so long, but you response definitely brought me back to reality.

We are currently on a waiting list to adopt a newborn.

Both pregnancies came *super* easy after weight loss, both were actually total surprises, I wasn't even tracking my cycle (which had evened out just a few months into losing weight. I lost about 45lbs both times and boom, pregnant.)

One of my friends had her first baby at 40 and her second at 42, (as long as you can get pregnant) I think it is never too late, a lot of people were really opinionated about her having them at her age. You run a higher risk of complications, however my friend had 2 perfectly healthy babies and normal pregnancies and deliveries, so I wouldn't let anyone's opinions about having a baby "later in life" deter you. I'm almost 36 and still not had any myself.

I had my first at 35 and my second at almost 39. Heck no it's not too old! Especially since you are getting healthier! I would suggest seeing a fertility specialist. Most insurances cover a consult. Best money I invested in was a good fertility specialist. Two beautiful children (3 & 6 now). Just be prepared, when you do get pregnant, because of age your test will come back for a high likelihood of a Down's syndrome child. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOUR CHILD HAS DOWNS SYNDROME. At the time I was scared but then I was informed that anyone over 37 usually get this result. I would love my child no matter if they had downs or not, it was just scary to get that result.

A good friend of mine had the sleeve 22 months ago. Not too long after the sleeve surgery she got pregnant. Her daughter is now 6 months old. There is less risk with the sleeve and pregnancy verses bypass and pregnancy because if the mal-absorption with bypass. Btw, she was 37 when she had her daughter.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
