Please Tell Me It Gets Better

Recommended Posts

You are likely dehydrated which is why you're week. Prilosec over the counter twice a day has saved many Sleevers. Please get yourself some!

I am 3 and a half weeks out and feel nauseous and nothing sits well in my stomach. I am weak and just plain don't feel good. I feel I may be regretting my decision. I can't imagine living like this.

You will definitely feel better soon! Hang in there. Sip away. I had severe fatigue for about 5 weeks. Then it got better. You're doing great! Hang in there!

You might also find that your body prefers liquids at a very cold temperature. I much prefer a Water ice cold than room temperature.

I find I can keep popsicles sugar free down but that's about it.

Those are also what saves me.

As another poster mentioned, I actually prefer cold beverages, contrary to what we were told in the hospital.

It really is trial and error.

I am day 5 out, and if there I sine thing I have learnt, is LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!

Drink small amounts of whatever sits well with you at whatever temperature feels good.

Don't try and eat, even if they say you should, if you don't feel like it. You will just make yourself sick.

Take it slow. Move as much as you feel comfy doing, and drink whatever stays down in whatever quantity!!

Did you get a hernia repair also? I have found that people that had an additional surgery procedure have more problems than people like me that didn't. Sometimes it takes time to get it together or to figure out what your triggers are. You may need to stay on liquids longer.

Good luck!

I am just over 2 weeks post op and I was scared like u last week. Drinking was a chore, moving was a big deal and took all I had. I have been extremely weak. But the more days go by the more fluids I can get in the better I feel. I have learned it's all about the fluids. I would get dizzy fast heart rate and breathing thinking I was going to pass out but as soon as I got some Water in me I felt better. I am learning to be patient with my body and give it the time it needs to heal. We will get beyond this point and be on the other side and all this pain and unknown will be a distant memory before we know it! I hope u feel better soon.

Anyone know if it's possible that my pain meds are part of what is making me nauseated?

Probably a big piece of it. I only took pain meds for 4 days. Hated the nausea. Zofran was my friend.

Oh good then I'm not going crazy. Doc had me on Percocet but every time I take it I get nauseated for a good hr. May have to switch to Tylenol to see if it helps.

It gets better. I am 4 weeks postoperative. Inch by inch your body will get stronger, remember you are in a healing stage from major surgery. Also, remember the goal. I like to read posts from members who are at goal or close to goal-they give me a lift and lots of great tips. Also remember to call your doctor if you need to,they want to make sure you are healing in a positive way.

Best thing I ever did was stop taking so much pain medication and just moved more. Within 24 hours I was like a different person.

All I took between day 3 post op and today (day 5 post op) is pandadol every 4 hours. Worked a treat.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
