My dr requires one week Optifast preop diet.... My NUT said that most people struggle the first few days... Today being my first, I've actually done really well and I don't have any craving... Did any of you struggle...? Was it the beginning or the end? I am feeling pretty confident after today.... But just wondering how ur preop diets went?

The pre-op diet for me was hard. At the time, an all liquid diet was mentally stressful. After all the years of being on diets that failed, I couldn't believe this one was going to do me any good. Just the thought of being deprived was causing me stress. But I made it through. And I can say that it was much tougher than the surgery. If you can get through the liquid diet phase, surgery is a breeze! B)

Day 4 was the hardest for me. By then, I was hungry and getting cravings and 10 more days felt like forever! (My pre -op was 14 days). But, I had done a six week liquid diet about 4 years ago (attempt #47 to lose the weight ;) ) so I knew I could get through it and I knew that day 4 was the toughest for me. Once I survived that, the rest wasn't too bad. I was still hungry a lot, and I did end up cheating one day (invited to lunch with the CEO and some other bigwigs and didn't want to miss that lunch or talk about my liquid diet, so I just ate a little bit and pushed food around on my plate...).

You can do this. It's harder mentally than physically but you can totally do liquid for 7 days!

That's the thing, I did so well day 1.. And so far day 2- didn't want to seem cocky and say I got this... I do feel pretty confident in this thou...

I started my pre-op diet last Monday the 12th. I did rather well the first 5 days. Really wasn't hungry but when I went to work I did awful. Cooking 3 home cook meals a day at work was hard. But now I'm back on it and am hoping not to fall off the wagon again. Nut wants me to lose 30-40 lbs. I'm on the diet for 4 weeks and boy is the food AWFUL!

that sounds like it would be a nightmare... I told my husband he needed to prepare his own meals during this time. And my daughters baby food isn't appetizing so... So far sooo good

I started day 1 of 7 of pre-op diet. I am allowed 3 to 4 Protein shakes with one 280 to 380 cal meal per day. Not to exceed 870 cals. Pigged out last night for final supper. Steak, Potates, salad and beer. Waited as long as possible to drink first liquid protien drink which was Bariatric Advantage's vegtable Soup. Tasted much better than a protien shake. Sipped it very slowly. Started my lunch protien shake 45 minutes ago. Just sipping along. At this pace it will take me several hours to finish. Yes, a real lunch sounds good, but I am holding up well. Should make it throught the first day with flying colors. Learned that I should pre blend the protien shakes prior to going to work. It took a long time to disolved the powder by shaking.

I am on day 7 of a 14 day liquid diet and I feel pretty good. It does get easier as each day passes. What has happened to me is that I feel myself getting a critical distance from food. There is so much junk EVERYWHERE. Being on the liquid diet has made me more reflective about the culture of food we live in and the type of things we put in out bodies.

My energy has been a little low at times but I also find myself able to focus on assignments. I am beginning to confront the reasons I use food when I'm bored, to cope, as a reward bc I'm not able to do that right now.

I know the logic is to shrink the liver but these past 7 days have been a mind trip!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
