I meet the surgeon for the first time today, and he said I would be on a liquid diet for one week prior to surgery.

Thanks JWGR

Yes, I am fine. Of course, I am concerned about the liquid diet and mushes stage. It's short term so I know I can do it, one day at a time. The doctor also says he wants me off all sweets - that will be harder. Honestly that is my big downfall. I welcome any suggestions on how anyone else handled the no sweets.

When did you have your surgery?

It best to atleast be on full Protein Drink diet by the time you have surgery cause after surgery you gotta be on liquid diet.

Not sure for most people but for me i started diet before surgery and got the withdrawl, bad mood, headaches, and so on... out of the way

Thanks Everyone,

Today is day three on my Protein Shakes, I am doing much better then I thought I would. I do have the headaches, bad mood and my stomach feels tight. I am assuming that is because something is shrinking? But i have done very well. Thanks for everyones support. 3 days down, 11 days to go till surgery. YEAH. I am truly blessed today.

I will not have to do a pre-op diet.. however, my surgeon does require that everyone lose weight before the surgery. The amount expected to be lost is dependant upon the individual case, but they have canceled surgeries because patients haven't lost enough weight. They consider the 6-month medically supervised diet to be enough. But no liquid diet or fasting or anything.

My Dr. request that we start a 1000 to 1200 cal diet. This has been hard some days but will keep trying.

my doctor told me i have to do a 25 week pre-op before the surgery! this sucks! did anyone else have to do this? the pre-op, consists of weekly meetings and liquid diet before the surgery...she may have been trying to scare me, but i did get a confirmation that its definitely 25 week pre-op! my first meeting is in a couple of weeks. i would like to just get the surgery and not have the pre-op stuff, but that's just my opinion...i hate seeing myself being so overweight, finally took the rose colored glasses off and looked at myself and said "damn!!!" what happened, i've literally gained over 100lbs in less than 2 years! 20lbs in 2 months, so i have 120lbs to lose. i've literally stayed from the old boyfriends, having pictures taken is painful! and the idea of having a relationship at this weight is a complete NO for me, see my lack of self esteem?

My doctor requires you to lose 10% of your excess weight. Four weeks before the surgery you can 1 Bariatrx Essential shake for Breakfast, 2 meals of lean cuisine (anything under 300 calories), limited amount of fruit for Snacks and another shake for evening snack. Week three is minus one of the lean cuisines and the last two weeks nothing solid except vegtables. It SUCKS! I am on week 3 before the surgery.:purplebananna:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
