June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the crossed fingers and toes ;) I'm not too concerned. I'm guessing my doc, a real nut job, will put me on a broad spectrum antibiotic and re-check my blood in a week. I'm sure it will work out. I'm just glad it was found in time to do something about it.

Right now I am seriously steamed with my insurance provider! Long story short, they've been processing my claims as out of network, when they're all IN network!! They FINALLY admitted to the computer error and are going through our entire family's bills since 1/01/07 to adjust them! Looks like they're going to owe me some money!!! But dang, these bills are driving me nutz!! I know, be grateful I'm not self pay...and I am...I'm just worried that I'll now have a life time of these head aches because of needed fills and blood work more often and such. BUT, if I don't get my weight under control, it's only a matter of time before I'm getting LOADS of doctor's bills for weight related disease! OK...enough rambling...

KT...let us know how your appt goes today :(

**edit** My PCP was really cool!!! He had a copy of my test results there and said he thought slightly elevated blood cell count was a bunch of of “hoo-ey” and that I probably had a little bug and that my count wasn’t high enough to cause worry. He repeated the urinalysis to make sure I didn’t have a UTI, but said he refused to do a bunch of tests when he can see I’m fine! SO, he’s signing off on the surgery and I’m all set!!! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Hi everyone

Had my final appointment with surgeon today... he said "well done" on weight loss so far, start your pre-op diet tomorrow, no food after midnight on the 31st, here are hospital forms you need to fillout and see you in theatre!!!

So, no more blood test or any other of any kind... all seems very straight forward... this is a good thing :-)

Well, I'd better go visit the treadmill... hope everyone else has a great day.

Cheers

Hi everyone! I am scheduled to be banded June 21st! I am so excited! I am really intrigued by all of the posts on this site. There is so much help here for any type of issue that could or would arise. I love the support that everyone gives. I have started just a low cal diet for now and will have to do a high Protein liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to the surgery. I am so happy---this will be the first day of the rest of my life! Congrats to you all, and I hope us June bandsters can keep in touch!

Me Too-I had my last appt today! I start my two weeks of Protein Shakes tomorrow! I'm very excited right now, but I wonder what my mood will be like after several days of liquids only! We will have to compare notes since we will both be banded on June 1st!

Lisa - I am wondering the same thing. I start my liquids on next Tues (May 22) and I am already having thoughts of missing food. I told my daughter that I won't be able to cook and she gasped.

Accountability - I have done really well this week, aside from Mother's Day, it was a free day for me. Sticking to my spin classes and burning 600 cals on the elliptical on the other days. Eating has been clean as well, lots of Protein, low carbs... I don't want the shakes :huytsao.

Hi everyone :(

I have my final appointment tomorrow with surgeon before big day on June 1st... am kind of worried about all these pre-op tests that everyone seems to have to do??? I had some bloodwork done a couple of months ago and that's it... I wonder if the surgeon is going to spring all this other testing on me tomorrow? Or maybe it's an insurance reqirement (I'm self pay)?

I have my pre-op tomorrow, all I was told about was labs and EKG. My insurance is paying for mine. All docs are just different, plus they look at each individual case to see what needs to be done.

Good luck everyone!

Welcome new posters for June banders! Only two more work days until my long waited appointment with the surgeon. I have a list of questions, mainly after what I ahve learned here. You are right Suzzzzzzie, everyone is so different. I am really excited about next week. I have appointments both Monday and Thursday next week, lab, dietician, groups, etc. I have waited since March 22 for this to start! I was depressed when they gave me my date of June 7, wishing it was sooner, but now it is here!!

Hey Lisa

I started the pre-op Optifast diet today... so far the only thing that I am missing is coffee! I did buy some green tea with lemon to help with the "hot drink" cravings and it is really nice so hopefyully that'll do the trick.

Am just about to start todays exercise (treadmill) and then plan on having a chocolate shake at about 4.00pm then I may just have to go to bed!!!! I think that the first 3 days will be the worst... however I've heard that you can loose as much as 7kgs in the 2 weeks if you really stick to it... I know that everyone is different but wouldn't that be awesome :-)

Hey all, so happy to hear so many of you are going for your pre-op appointments. (also a bit jealous LOL) It's getting so close for you.

I only have a few more appointments til I can make my pre-op one.

On the many differences of appointments, yes it is up to the doctor. For me I think my age, my family medical history and my own medical history is part of the reason I need all these pre-tests done.

Welcome new June banders.

It looks like everyones pre op appointments are 1-2 weeks before the big day. Mine is only 2 days before. I asked the Doc and he said that the hospital wants the lab work done no sooner than 72 hours. So 2 days before I need chest X-ray, EKG, Blood work, and I meet with the Doc for the last time before the op. I always thought it took longer for the blood work. Anyhow, I can't wait!!! Best of luck to everyone.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
