I never seem to have room for veggies. I do drink v8 with Protein Powder. I am three months out and 15 pounds from my doctors goal. Keep taking all your Vitamins and you will do fine. One of these days we will eat veggies and fruit again.

During the 1st few months, I was eating so little that I was mostly eating Protein. I didn't have much room for anything else and any kind of vegetable didn't agree with Frankensleeve. I was losing about 17 lbs a month. I made sure I was taking my multi-vitamins, Calcium, and B-12. Other than the hassle of Constipation - from not getting in enough Fiber, everything was fine.

Protein alone is not good. You must eat some veggies. I was having problems with gout, Constipation and slow weight loss, and our NUT said it was all because I ate too much Protein. I was afraid to eat veggies. Once I started the zucchini and salads, etc., it was awesome. I can now tolerate any steamed veggies. I have heard bad things since about eating too much protein, but I am not educated enough to discuss it. Maybe someone else can help here.

17 pounds a month I would love those results, thanks for the feedback. Great job!!

That's great that you can now have a variety of foods, thanks for the feedback.

Early on you won't have room for anything other than Protein. That is normal. However, by your third month, you should try to get vegs in, even if it is only a bite, since you must still eat your Protein first.

As you progress, you will be able to eat more vegs and eventually fruit. I am at 8 1/2 months. I can eat 3 oz of firm protein and about 1/4 cup of vegs at a meal. If the protein and/ or vegs are very soft, I can eat more, maybe a half cup.

Vegs make a good low calorie snack once you get to the point that hunger returns or start wanting more food.

From the beginning I have used fiber powder added to my Protein shakes. I get in 12 -15 g of fiber a day. I think the guideline is 12 g per 1000 calories.

My surgery has to be after July 30th, cause my work has that I have to be at my job a year before I can have short term disability and also get VSG covered- so I'm doing all the things ahead of time , so when July 30th rolls around I just am waiting for the surgery date-

Trying to figure out what weight I will be close to at Christmas , it's fun to have the hope and excitement that something might FINALY work.

My husband really hasn't said much about the surgery- it's like after almost 25 years of marriage it doesn't faze him - I've been on so many diets !! He shares in cooking, so he laughed and said- just tell me when to get out the food scale- I told him that this time it will just be measuring cups for a long time then the food scale! ;)

I ate Protein ONLY for about 18 mos. after surgery (per my NUT's instructions) until my stomach expanded enough to allow me to get my 80gms of Protein and still have room for non starchy veggies. Boy, did I miss salad!!!

And yes, it did cause Constipation, so took Miralax and Colace, daily.

NUT said as long as I took my Vitamins, my nutrition was ok.

Blood work was always fine.

She said that not enough protein would increase hair loss and effect weight loss as my body would go into starvation mode.

That's right around the corner and it's great that your being proactive, and your right, it does feel great to know that I'm headed towards long term success.!!!

This totally make sense, I notice when I read about long stalls it's usually people that have a hard time with protein intake. Thanks for the feedback I appreciate this site and those that are willing to share important information.

I'm just at the beginning of my 7th week and I'm all about Protein. That being said, I do love the sugar free bomb pop popcycle. Especially right after I drink my one Protein shake every day (it leaves a yucky taste in my mouth). I have also on a couple of occasions had a little Peanut Butter on a cracker but thats only if I have had all my Protein for the day. I have also had a cracker or two with my tuna on a couple of occasions. My idea of a real treat has certainly changed! And I must say that I'm quite proud of the fact that I made it through the entire Easter holiday without one, not even one, reeses Peanut Butter egg :-)

Have you tried the fat free PB2 powder you mix with Water? Check it out, Peanut butter that tastes like regular.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
