Any May 20th surgeries out there?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone feel as though this day will never get here? Or that the process was so long that it seems almost too good to be true that it is this close?

I am scheduled for May 27th. My 14 day preop diet starts tomorrow. Last night I was rereading all my packet info and making lists of what I need at the store. I am also going to program an app on my phone to schedule all my Vitamins post op.

May 19th for me too. I am on the start of my 4th week pre-op. Next week it will be the start of my new life. can't wait to clean up my closet! Feeling really good, lost 25 lbs - that reminds me I need to update my ticker. I know I'll be longing for a shake once I am post op and not allowed to have one for a week, but for now my taste buds are tired of it. I never was able to have the 5 shakes a day. Three is plenty, I hope I'm getting all the nutrients needed. I worry about all the post-op pain and first few days "regretation" (made up word) that I've seen on this forum and on videos. Keeping my tunnel -vision, eye on the prize mentality going into it.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery and a healthy post-op!

Wow I am so excited for you all. I am waiting to see if BCBS is going to approve my sleeve surgery. I pray I get approved on my first try. My current BMI is 38.9 with a blood pressure out of the roof. I just need help getting this weight off; I am tired of living like this.

I think you all are awesome. Appreciate hearing everyone's mental preparations as well pre-op diet plans.

Again, my surgery is on the 20th here in Dallas and started my pre-op on May 6th. Over the last six days of the diet, I have lost 12 pounds. Overall it's been pretty easy sticking to it, but there have been some points where I have had the internal battle of wanting something outside the regimen. I'd say I've stuck to the diet 95%.

My surgeons plan for me is the following:

I will say that I still hate the fact I want massive quantities of food (trying not to list them here). It scares me if I'm honest. Not so much scared of regaining weight, though that exists--more so the fear of still being dominated by food. I hope that this surgery gives me the wherewithal to eat responsibly and exercise consistently.

Let's be strong together. Believe this surgery will empower us for health and life.

Looking forward to touching base with you all after the surgery!

Krystal0528, I'm in GA. I got the Atkins shakes. I had my pre op today. I loooove my surgeon. He is awesome and I have confidence in him and he has my mind at ease. The Atkins stuff is low carb high Protein. It tastes pretty good. I also ordered the Ujury unflavored protein and broth.< /p>

Hi everyone!

It seems the consensus is that the Unjury Protein is the one to get? I'll be ordering that today, I've been drinking the EAS carb control ready made, and they are delish , but gets expensive. How's everyone doing on their pre-op? I have good days and bad... Finals this week, so watching my carb intake has not been my #1 priority. Also fighting off a cold with zicam. Praying I get rid of it. I have my final pre-op appointment today with my surgeon. Can't believe I will be sleeved in 1 week!!!! I am so excited, and nervous, and truthfully... Wishing I could shove my fave with all my favorite goods from now until then lol

Congrats to all who have lost weight already!!! I was down 10 lbs but gained 3 back... Wouldn't be getting surgery if keeping the weight off wasn't an issue lol.

I also have told nobody!! Nobody except my husband about getting sleeved... To many huffy, " concerned" family members and friends. I would have spent the last 3 months listening to them try to talk me out of it... AGAIN... Which they did 3 years ago when I was 70 lbs lighter... What a waste lol

So great to have pals on here who will be going through this together!! ????

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
