Any May 20th surgeries out there?

Heavyweight :360

Surgery Date 5/28/2014

No issues at all, super glad I did this. I can eat anything now, even a chocolate bar, however I choose to eat healthy 99% of the time. If I do eat a chocolate bar or something, I eat it in moderation and still hit all my calorie/protein goals for the day. I haven't had a soda since surgery and any sort of bread/pasta is tough on me.

I'm doing well. I've lost 13kgs, which is a bit slow for my liking, but that's why I never lost weight in the past; I would get so impatient and give up because I wasn't where I wanted to be within a month of starting a diet!

I can eat most things, just not a lot of it. bread doesn't sit well with me, but I have times where I crave a sandwich. I used to be a carb hound, and still battle the demons. I have the sandwich, but just don't get the emotional hit I used to with it. That's a good thing, I just need to fight that feeling 'I need bread' feeling!

I don't regret the decision for a minute, it's just learning to live with a stomach the size of a banana that is the issue at the moment. I have no doubts that this time next year, all will be good.

I was sleeved on 5/21. No regrets! I've had a few stalls here and there but progress has been steady. At surgery I was 260 and my current weight is 221. I was doing really with my walking everyday but have fallen off these last few weeks as things have gotten busy but really want to make it a priority. I still have an issue with acid reflex but as long as I'm diligent about taking Prilosec I seem to do fine.

Congratulation to all of you with your great success story's of the weight loss . I was may 30 I know last month I was 51 pounds lighter . I have not weighed my self , I use to but I got obsessive with it and depression if I did not drop lol so I stopped weighing my self and now I just wait to go in to the dr . I was also sleeved on May 20th and know without a doubt that this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. My family, coworkers, friends and everyone else are also benefitting from a more energetic, more positive me. I started at 251 lb and am now down 55 lbs at 196. It was a fantastic coincidence that I crossed over into ONE-derland exactly on my 3-month surgiversary, and I cried when I saw that number that I haven't seen in over a decade.

I have been pretty open about my procedure, particularly when I talk to someone who is also obese and I can see the pain in their eyes that tells me they are really desparate. Since my surgery, 2 good friends have had the surgery and another has a surgical consult scheduled.

I have lost a ton of inches as well and am fitting into large T-shirts and size 14-16 pants. I don't have anything smaller than 14-16 into my closet, so I'll have to go shopping pretty soon. Up until now, I've been able to "shop in my closet" and have a great time doing it. I started out wearing sz 22-24 pants and 1X-2X shirts, so I couldn't be happier and prouder. I work at a university, so it has also been pretty fun to get comments from returning students who last saw me 55 lbs heavier.

I still have trouble with fairly frequent nausea, but I am able to get in my daily Protein and my labs were good at my 3-month post-op visit. Just the thought or smell of carb-heavy foods make me want to gag, whcih is actually a blessing at this point. As I read somewhere recently, I can honestly say that I do a lot of things very, very well, but weight loss did taking care of myself did not used to be one of those things I did well. Thanks to the great tool I found in the sleeve, I am living a different life.

Best,

B and B

It sounds like everyone is doing great., I'm still thrilled at my overall progress, however.... is anyone else slowed to a crawl? I still only weight about every 2-4 weeks usually at support group but at the last weigh in I lost only 5 pounds in about 2 weeks. I'm a little scared.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
