Awesome. I've been on a 4 week plateau, but my clothes keep fitting better and better.

I've read some by a guy named Lyle McDonald that during large fat loss periods, when triglycerides are released for energy, Water enters into the fat cell. This results in a plateau though the mission is being accomplished. Then, after an indeterminate amount of time, a mass exodus of water leaving the fat cells occurs and another large drop in body weight occurs. Here's the article:

Pre-Op (5/1/14)

325 lbs

Surgery (5/20/14)

301 lbs

CW (6/30/14)

278 lbs

Hope all is well for everyone!

Hi! New to this thread but I'm a May 20th sleeve too! I had hit a 2 week plateau (as far as the scale but I was still losing inches) but today I weighed and I'm down another 4 lbs. I also started back at the gym today for my 5:30am workouts. It felt so good to be back. I tried to go around 3 weeks post op after my doc cleared me but it was too much too soon.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Wow you've all lost so much! Makes me feel like I'm the slacker of the group :/

I FINALLY got my energy back last week. Haven't had too many complications. Everything I've tried to eat I've been able to keep down. Had a doctor apt today and they said I'm on track. I have another apt in 6 weeks and they told me I need to be eating 1200 calories by then (yikes!) so we'll see. The most I can get in at one time is about 2oz and I'm def still on my Protein shake-8oz a day!

HW: 292

SW: 278

CW: 253

Congratulations everyone and keep it up!

I'm a bit over 6 weeks out (May 20th includes 9 day preop). I'm down from 251 high to 219 this morning. Clothes are loose, some actually fit now (you know...the ones you're squeezing into and saying they fit :-) and I actually got into a pair of jeans I had bought but never worn.

Need to be more diligent with Water for sure and exercise. But...I'll take any loss! Wasn't able to lose this weight on any "diet" lol!

Congrats everyone!

1200 calories!! Eek! How on earth do we do that? I just entered my food from today in my fitness pal - including my Protein Shake - and it only totaled 338 calories. I guess I'm not eating enough. And don't worry you're energy will come back and even if the scale isn't moving you're probably still losing inches! Keep it up!

I'm a May 20th VSG. Congrats to everyone on all of their success. I am down 35 lbs and feel pretty good about it. I can hardly wait until I'm under 200 lbs-it's been almost 10 years since I was there.

I think I usually get around 700-800 calories per day right now. My morning shake is a lot of that. I make one that has around 50 grams of Protein with unjury Protein Powder, Greek yogurt, lactose-free milk, low-cal flavorings and ice (I just also started adding a small amount of frozen fruit). It gives me a headstart on my fluids and Protein, and I usually divide into into 3 cups and drink them over the course of the morning. The rest of my calories are found in low-fat Cottage cheese, a couple of bites of whatever protein I am eating wtih lunch and dinner, and low-fat cheddar or Babybel cheeses.

I have had ongoing trouble with nausea. It was terrible post-op. It was so bad that I ended up very dehydrated 3 days after discharge and ended up getting 2 liters of IV fluids at the urgent care clinic. It still plagues me if I'm not really careful, even taking the Omeprazole. I often have trouble getting all of my Vitamins down due to the nausea.

I just joined BariatricPal tonight and am lookin forward to learning from the community and giving and getting support.

Peace

Hello all.... May 19th was my date. I had a long journey before surgery. Diagnosed with diabetes last spring 2013 when I was JUST thinking about having surgery. My highest weight was a few months before the diagnosis at 299. The diabetes did give me a 30 pound weight loss, but I was sick. Anyway I got the diabetes under control in about 9 months with pills and 4 shots a day. Something had to give. So by the end of my pre- op diet I was 269 at pre- op (5/16/14) and now at 2 months post op I'm at 232. I am happy that my clothes are feeling loose, but I'm still wearing my BIG girl stuff. Tomorrow I get to go closet shopping. I can start to wear those clothes I refused to toss when I outgrew them. I really did not have a plan at the time, but somehow I knew I'd be in them again. I feel like the weight loss is slowing already but to be honest, I have to exercise. It's still kind of hard to believe I actually can now. ;) This sight was a huge help pre and post op, so I'll need your help for the work out stage. Any tips on motivation and maintiance?

I was done may 28th. I have no trouble eating anything except bread/pasta which gives me "stuck" feeling. I no longer crave anything that is really greasy which is a big change for me. I loved hamburgers and fried foods but thinking about them now makes my stomach uneasy. Hw 360 Cw 310

Edit: I eat 800-1000 calories per day. 80-100g of Protein. I also workout 5-6 days a week. Usually 350 cardio calories plus some strength training.

It's been 10 long years! Here is my VSG weight loss surgiversary update..

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
