Hi. My name is Stephanie. I had the vertical gastric sleeve surgery on the 9th of this month. So about a week and a half out today. I feel great. I went on my first real walk today. A little over a mile. It went well, but I did get light headed on the way back and could feel my heart beat in my throat, which I had never felt before. So, that was odd, but I made it and it felt good about 5 minutes after. ;) I live in Lake Tahoe and it's absolutely gorgeous today. Perfect day for my first big walk. My starting weight was 338. I am 28 pounds down from my pre op visit and 11 down since surgery. I started my mushy stage today. Poached egg and grits for Breakfast. Was wonderful! :) I hope to find a great support system here and be great support for others. Hope this wasn't too long. Thanks for having me.

welcome, welcome, welcome to both you NEWBIES :)

always nice to add a couple bright eyed bushy tailed guinie pigs (oooops i mean newbies :D )

you will get lots of support and help on the board :)

you'll get advice and help with your questions

BUT always remember you should call/see your doc with any medical issues

you take their word - always, only listen to them (or me too of course :D )

Stephanie, sounds like you "might" have overdone a bit with your one mile walk

even though you are feeling good - don't push yourself so early on

lake tahoe sounds beautiful

but it will still be around tomorrow and the day after ;)

gradually work up with your walking et al

don't go exercising (cardio, weights) til your doc says its ok (many/some say around 6 weeks)

good luck to both of you :)

i know you will work hard and be successful :)

good luck :)

kathy

Yes. I overdid it a bit. That wasn't the plan. It just happened. ;) Thank you for the welcome and the advice. I will take it more slowly for sure. And plan better. I'm realizing planning is going to be my best friend. :)

confused, sad, alone and just friggin disappointed.

some/many people have problems with pre-op diet/shakes et al

i think/know people feel overwhelmed at times

cheating alittle too??

Knock it off!!!

couple of reasons doc wants people to lose weight pre-op

its easier for them to perform surgery, around our fatty liver

they also want you to prove that you can proceed, follow rules et al

some/many/me hate those nasty shakes

but their important

there are prepared liquid shakes that don't taste too bad

i think Premier is one of them???

you are still 10 days pre-op..........keep working on eating properly, not as much food too

but keep plugging away

many of us are overwhelmed at first - and maybe for a while post op too

keep reading the many informative posts

you've been a member here for just over a month

read, read, and read past posts

go to utube and watch some videos

you'll see many encouraging people - before and after pics

this should help motivate you

i can see the determination in your eyes

you can do this, but you DO have to work at it

some people think that the sleeve is a magic pill

its not!!!!

the sleeve works with you if/when you work with it

this is hard, and you have to keep up with your proper eating for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life

but.......on the plus (this is a big one) you will be so much healthier, feel & look better too

i no longer take diabetic meds/insulin - no high blood pressure, no CPAP

my big unexpected reward is/was having my epilepsy medication/dosage cut in half!!!!!

you can/will be successful

you made the wise decision to have the sleeve - don't second guess yourself now

be excited/prepared for a gigantic, wonderful change in your life

no more cheating ok (even if its healthy stuff)

keep telling yourself you can do this

if you hopefully you can succeed....

i wouldn't cancel

talk to your doc if you are comfortable

hope i didn't lecture too much, but i care, and i know you want to lose your weight for many reasons

get ready for the 23rd

good luck

speedy, good recovery

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
