"I don't ever want surgery..."

Recommended Posts

Oh sure, I said it once, 12 years ago, when the best option was the RnY and I just squick a little at the idea of that much plumbing rearrangement. Lap-band was still "experimental" then, according to my insurance.

My sister-in-law said something similar back in June when I said I was planning to have surgery "at some point in the next year".

Last time she saw me was the wedding, in late July 2013. I was in a wheelchair because of a broken leg and the nicest pants I owned were size 26/28 black yoga pants from Lane Bryant.

In October, the pictures of my daughter's first birthday party showed me in all 390 lbs of "at least I can walk now" glory. She asked if I'd had surgery yet, and I said no.

And then the pictures I just posted for Easter / Ari's 18-mo .... I'm in a size 20 dress from Lane Bryant, looking gorgeous!! I have awesome hair, a cute waist coming back.... And suddenly I get a message "how much weight have you lost since surgery?!?!"

I explained that since starting the pre-surgery liver-shrinking diet.... I've lost about 75 pounds. "More like 77". But about 95 now overall.

"Wait when did you start the diet?"

"January 27. About 80 days ago. Yeah, it's about a pound a day. That's not really typical, I said, because it's harder to lose pounds closer to your goal weight. I just started so big that the "way out there" pounds come off easier...."

The next day, "ARRRRGGHHH WHY DOESNT MY INSURANCE COVER WEIGHT LOSS SURGERYYYY"

So sorry to hear that, it must have been such a disappointment for you. As the others said, you are now well on your way to being healthier. I know its not easy, but you have done so well so far.

That is so disappointing! If I were you I would look into seeing if you can get an exception.

If not, keep losing and then look into changing insurance next year.

What an honor to be such a good role model to your sis n law that she wants to follow in your footsteps! I'm sorry her insurance is not WLS friendly.

I think she's saying her sister-in-law's insurance doesn't cover WLS. Great job Elfnow!!

Yes sorry for the confusion... I didn't have insurance, we paid out of pocket. My sister-in-law is chagrined to find her insurance doesn't cover WLS of any type. She weighs less than I do now, but we're about the same size.... Actually I'm one size smaller (not that it matters much) but I think realizing that I went from 3 sizes bigger to 1 size smaller in less than 6 months has her gears turning.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
