my2 mine is the 23rd too! I start a one week low fat liquid diet this Friday. 100% fruit juice, skim k, sugar free pops, sugar free Jello , Protein shakes and low fat chicken cream Soup and Tomato Soup ugh.... Right this second I'm scared but in an hour or two I'll probably be excited again. too have been flip flopping back and forth emotionally. So happy to see others feel the same. Its a huge life changer! Just have to keep telling myself its only food and I will be much healthier. Easier said right lol

Gettinfit, I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Yes, it is a lot easier said than done, but when I am being rational and thinking clearly, I realize that child birth also wasn't a walk in the park - and look at those rewards! I know this is what I need to do, I just get scared, and then start to talk myself out of it. One and a half weeks from now, it'll all be over, and then the journey can truly begin. :)

Congrats Ladies! Just remember everything worth obtaining is hard, if it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. It's the hard that makes it rewarding. You gals got this!!

I was sleeved yesterday. Feeling pretty sore in one stab site. And the nausea and heartburn are killing me. My surgeon checks twice for leaks and I have none thank god. I don't have the bad had at all. I'm just really tired. Been up walking a little.

I'm excited for you! I like your question and was wondering the same thing. I was supposed to get sleeved may 20, but it got moved to may 27 or June 3. I'm anxious to read your updates. Through reading the posts I've decided to have gas-x strips and a heating pad readily available!!!

Oh, Ladybug123, I feel your pain! I was sleeved on Monday and did great up until about 8:30 or 9:00 Monday night. My nausea was so horrible that they had to put me NPO (nothing by mouth) all day on Tuesday, so I had to stay another day. I've had food poisoning twice and this nausea was so much worse than when I had food poisoning. Absolutely worst experience of my life. The doctors did an MRI, barium swallow (that came back up quickly!) CT scan and x-rays and concluded that there is no leak - that it is just my body freaking out over the new curvature of my stomach. I'm still having nausea and gas cramps, but they're getting better each day and I'm keeping my fluids down. Not meeting my liquids goal yet, but at least I'm not toooo dehydrated. Ironically, my nausea started really soon after I did a GasX strip Monday night. My nurse scolded me and said that she has seen so many patients get increased nausea after taking GasX shortly after surgery. I sure hope you feel better soon.

The nurse said that they are too hard on the stomach that soon after surgery when everything is still so raw. I know I'd never take it again if I had it to do over.

For those of you seeing Dr. Kim in Colleyville, just thought I'd let you know that Texas General was great. The nurses are all very sweet and the hospital is clean. You get your own room with no roommate There is a pull out sofa in each room if your SO wants to stay overnight with you and a lounge on each floor with vending machines. Plus a cafeteria on the first floor. I did sometimes get conflicting instructions from my nurses as to how often to do something (like use the breathing spirometer - was told by three different nurses to do it 30 minutes, 1 hour, and every two hours), so that was kind of confusing. They also have a person come by who is a respiratory nurse to make sure you're doing your breathing. The TV is free and there is Wi-fi (although sporadic). Best of luck to all of you headed that way soon.

How does everyone's large incision feel? Mine is a ton better but it still hits to use muscles in that spot.

Still a little sore. Its the only one that I hold while getting up. Still green around it.

No nausea for me and I used the gas x. It helped the gas pain an awful lot. Day three very little gas pains. Finally.

Mine is sore too. I sneezed really hard and feel like a strained a muscle on that side. Oh well, can't really complain otherwise so I'll take it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
