Anyone having surgery in May

Recommended Posts

Hi , I am having mine on the 1st of May . I have 2 kids and younger one is 15 months old. As a mom Do I need to get some things ready before the big day .

Yes, if your a single mom find someone to take care of them tell you heal and have energy, because after surgery you won't be able to lift your baby or play with them. If you have a spouse have him take time off well your in the hospital and when you come home and he goes back to work have someone come over to help take care of the kids well your spouse is at work. Hope this helps.

I did a bad thing I was upset cos my daughter was very nasty to me she has no sympathy for my fear or difficulties with pre op diet etc cos she says I brought it all upon myself - I fell into terrible depression so went and bought a Box of fudge and some shortbread biscuits and ate the lot :-( my op is Tuesday morning - I feel bad and very alone with no friends or family support - I have no family other than my daughter and my friends are in Australia :'( And im in England - I hope I haven't messed up my op by eating bad things.

Bridget, have you been seeing a psychologist? I've found that my continued visits have helped with my anxiety from certain family members disapproval.

I am a psychologist lol - no I don't see anyone - I'm self funding and here in UK seeing psych and counsellors very expensive privately - I have to find a way to stop using food as an emotional crutch which is clearly what I do.

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, and I'm having Gastric sleeve surgery on May 27th with Dr. Aceves! I am so excited, but I'm getting really nervous about the post-op diet. My mom had the same surgery and she said she was starving! A whole month of living on liquids is going to be hard!! Lol! Is anyone else having their surgery on the 27th?

NiaSia: That's what my pre-op diet is as well. Start mine on May 10th with surgery on the 20th. Like you, I'm trying to take it one phase at a time! I'm a planner so this is a little difficult but there is so much to think about that I have forced myself to take it one step at a time and "trust the process". Good luck!!

Thanks Rome! Good luck to you too!!! I thought I was they only one with that strict of a diet! Lol actually I'm now day 3 as it is 1 am and it's not too bad. I'm getting used to carrying "my bag" around that contains my Protein shakes Jello and Water.

I too am a planner but this time I'm doing just what you said and trusting the process!!!!

I am one more night away from surgery...May 5th. I am in Southern California and I have been pursuing the surgery since 2008. Can't believe I am actually a day away. My insurance and medical group required 32 weeks worth of classes and support groups. It was a 3 hour round trip at least once a week but I made it! I am having the bypass and will be kept for a minimum of 48 hours. I am so thankful for this site and to all of you who share your stories. Thanks to you all! Keep sharing and I hope we can continue to help one another through the ups and downs. God Bless You All...

It will all be worth it in the end. I had surgery September 16, 2013. Best discussion I ever made. Good luck.

I'm having my surgery on Monday May 12th. I've been on the liquid diet for 7 days...yesterday I had cottage cheese and an Atkins Meal so i cheated. I guess it wasn't a bad cheat but back on the wagon today. I was just to HUNGRY and felt like i was going to puke all day so i had a little chicken and green Beans. 7 Days till surgery and i'm nervous and excited at the same time. I've already lost about 10 lbs and have been working out 45 min each day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
