I am having surgery May 29th, getting pretty nervous! I am not sure what Vitamins I should be buying can anyone help me with this :)

if you go to Celebrate's website, it will walk you through which vitamins you need according to your surgery. I think we are a bit nervous! We can do this!

JoleneB - my last day is clear liquid as well and nothing after midnight. I am in Fort Lauderdale not too far. It's exciting that we are going through this journey at the same time. Let me make how it goes today!

Hello! My surgery is scheduled for May 12th. I'm excited and nervous. I know it's the best choice for me but have never had major surgery or general anesthesia so that makes me nervous. I have a 1 1/2 yr old and the thought of not being able to carry her for 6 wks hurts my heart. I just have to keep reminding myself that I'll be able to do so much more once I'm at a healthy weight.

My surgery day is May 12th also. I start my pre op diet today. I am so excited and nervous. I can hardly believe that is it coming up so quickly. I already have all my Vitamins ready for post op. My pre op appointment at the hospital is Thursday. I have been talking to my 12 and 4 year old about how we will be gone for a few days. My 12 year old understand that I am having surgery, my four year old knows that when I come home I will have some boo boos.

dear ones, yes, had my wonderful surg. on the fifteenth...three days in hosp., then home to motel. suppose to stay in anchorage until 26th...800 mile round trip from home. I am doing great and husband being super great to me. only new words of wisdom I didn't see in all my research are...buy lots of disposable bed pads!!! would have made life so much easier. GLAD I had the surg. a fun thing...I had unexpected paranoia...probably from the narcotics...I thought the hospital was running a drug ring and was going to be raided by police that day. whew!!! happy when that was over. blessings, Karen in the woods of Alaska getting ready to Celebrate my 73rd birthday on the 29th of this month

Why the disposable bed pads?

Glad it all went well!!!

I'm curious what the bed pads are for. My guess is for accidents as I've heard about uncontrolled explosions if you know what I mean. Just a guess.

Rchobby how are you today ?? I'm doing better every day, started time of month today so that sucks but glad to get it over with before next week! I'm looking to lose about 120 pounds how about you? My starting weight was 256. How are you holding up on the liquids? Oh and found out my surgery is at 730 AM so I'm happy about that! I didn't want to be scheduled late in the day.

My date is set for May 20th? I have not seen anyone else with that date here. I have a three year old that my husband and mom are going to help me take care of for the first week, then we will see after that. I start my 10 day pre-op diet on May 9th. My doctor gave me a choice between his bariatric shakes or Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added shakes. I took the Carnation because they gave us samples and they were pretty good. I'm allowed to have a small amount of fruit a day pre/op as well. Getting excited and nervous.

Hello I am new to the group. I am scheduled for surgery on May 12th. Counting down the weeks and days.

Hi, I'm pretty new to group as well.. Looks like you received your surgery date a while ago ( I got my date 3 weeks ago). My RNY is scheduled for May 12 also-- I figured the Monday after Mother's day should be ok.

I'm on Day 2 of my pre-op diet and hoping this 2 week period goes FAST!! Not sure why all of a sudden I'm thinking about food all the time :o when I was a-ok before starting the pre-diet.. Good luck to you!!!

Hello everyone, have any of you ordered medical alert bracelets yet? If so where did you order from and if not are you planning on ordering one? Just a question because it was recommended by my surgeon to have one.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
