Well, I'm officially in bandland...had the surgery yesterday. I feel great today and if my port weren't sore, would be up and running around! My hospital was wonderful. I was an out-patient and had to be there at 7. Got there shortly before that (after getting up at 4 and hitting the road at 4:45!), was taken in to a room w/ the hubbling and then about an hour later was taken in to the pre-op area. I'd say the surgery started around 8:30 and DH said the doc came out and talked to him at 9:30 and said all went well. I stayed in recovery until about 11:30 and we were back on the road and headed home by noon! I didn't need any pain medicine until right before I left and then didn't take any more until right before I went to bed at midnight. Woke up at 3:00 hurting and got up to take more...decided to sleep in my lounger after that because we have a platform bed and it's a little low and a little difficult to get out of. But then I slept thru until my doc's office called at 8. I was fortunate and didn't have much of a preop diet - just the day before - and I only have to do today, then I'll start on the full liquid diet for 2 weeks. Hopefully that won't be too bad (I cheated this a.m. and put some Coffeemate in my coffee, but will behave the rest of the day...I hope!). I'm looking forward to that first 'real' meal, but know my stomach will be shrunk enough that I won't be likely to overdo it. I'm a librarian at a small college and our new school year starts 97 days from yesterday. I have a 'new' dress, size 16 that I bought a few years ago and have never been able to wear, so that's my motivation for the summer. The doc said I could start back exercising mid June. Hopefully by then we'll have all the algae out of our pool and I can enjoy the summer!!

Thanks for all your prayers and positive thoughts. This forum has been a great help in my journey so far and I'm sure will continue to help me over the rough spots!

SillyWillyMommy...

Oh, tell me about it... I kept having visions of being wheeled into the OR and someone come running to stop the surgery because they didn't have the surgical auth!!!! HA!

Hi Everyone.. Today is the big day. I have a 1pm surgery scheduled to get banded. I am hungry and thirsty most of all... this 3 day liquid diet was harder than I expected. BUT>>>>>

I am most excited about my new journey I am about to take. I can't wait to see the old me come back again.

I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

Kitty

Hey Crabcake,

I'm so glad to hear about your great experience so far. You really sound great! Keep us posted...

Congrats to all who have been banded so far! I'm off to drive over an hour away on no sleep (I work nights) for my pre-admission testing, should be fun. I hope they don't think I'm mental because I'm sooooo tired!

Pray for me to make it there and back, safely!

Thank you!!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....

I've never met so many supportive people in my life!

Best of luck to everyone....We're all in this together... We can do this!!!!

...not sure if we've done this lately but another reason to lose 100lbs....

*so the nurse taking my BP doesn't have to go running off to get the extra large cuff!!!

JerseyDori, Mischievous1 & ShayDee, i hope all went well for you today. good luck to cindyluhu, <o></o>cfred, buscove24, mommytokk, & NicksWife22. you'll all be in my thoughts and prayers!

Time is just dragging on this month. I am convinced the next 14 days are going to feel like 14 months! Anyone else feeling this way? I just want it to be here so I can get it over with already!

How is everyone tonight? It is day 4 for me, and I am feeling more like I will survive. I wish I didn't feel hungry, but I guess that just goes with the process. My shoulder is still hurting. I am so confused on what I can and can't have that I am scared to do anything!

Ginger

I got really hungry around day 5 but found I could eat bigger portions and now I am fine. My 'eating' schedule the bariatric dr. gave me is as follows if its any help to you:

Day 3-4, smoothies, pureed soup, v-8 juice, low fat yogurt that doesnt have berry seeds-protien drink.

Day 5-6, add bananas, applesauce

Day 7, add oatmeal consisitancy foods, cottage cheese, well cooked veggies, (except stringy stuff like celery and aspargus).

Day 8-10, Soft boiled or scrambled eggs, canned frutis, baked potato

Day 11-12 SLOWLY add fresh fruit.

Day 14--baked fish, tuna with non fat mayo, toast, crackers, rice, pasta, vegetables, whole grain cereal.

Avoid fruit peelings, corn, asparagus, celery, sugar or high fat foods.

Do not use a straw to drink as it causes gas. No caffien or carbonated beverages. Eat slow and CHEW EVERYTHING UNTIL ITS MUSH AND DO NOT DRINK LIQUIDS 30 min BEFORE OR 90 MINUTES AFTER YOU EAT AS YOU WILL FEEL HUNGRY AGAIN

I hope this helps!!

am eating about a cup of food every hour. Just eat real slow and quit when you feel satisfied.

Great post on what to eat. It sounds reasonable. I'll print it out and hope this agrees with my doctor says. I've been wondering what an eating plan would look like. Thanks.
