Congrats Margaret on your NSV! I can't wait until I can use regular towels :)

I unfortunately have hit my first plateau. No real weight loss for 2 weeks and actually am up a pound despite almost daily exercise (6/7 days a week) and no days of calories over 1500 (most under 1000). SO FRUSTRATING. Makes me want to say f*** it and go eat french fries and cake.

how long do these plateaus last?? I don't feel like I need a fill- I don't get super hungry between meals.. this just BLOWS.

yea for everyone who is doing so well so far on the challenge!

;)

happy monday!

Hi, all - I go for my first fill on Thursday this week. I'll let you know how it goes. For the first time in 10 months, played 18 holes of golf yesterday - was a bit sore from muscles not being accustomed to it, but felt great otherwise...I was a little concerned about port pain and such, but no problems.

You guys are great... I try to keep up with reading all your posts to learn, I am a June bandster! What is a NSV!

Wenjea What a great feeling when you go shopping and go down in sizes. I went shopping at store at the mall this weekend and they had a big sale. I had to get a dress for my son's wedding this Saturday( not like waiting...right!) but was able to get a 16! And two other dresses for work too. Like you, I don't want to spend a lot on clothes I hopefully don't fit into for long. I try to buy everything on clearance!

QUESTION I have not had a fill yet, just reaching my 4 weeks being banded. I have had a hard time staying good on my eating. I am to be on Mushies until my doc appointment tomorrow, however I have eaten tortilla chips and dip with out restriction or problems, besides feeling VERY guilty, I am concerned that I may be harming my band and stomach?? what do you think? I am back on my plan and trying to remain focused, but it is hard when the hunger is coming back and no restriction... I have 3 weeks until my first fill...

Janine,

NSV is a Non-Scale Victory... Small or big steps in our journeys that can't be measured on a scale!

Hi everyone, I thought I'd update. I had my first fill last week (at 5 weeks post-surgery) and I have restriction. I have a 10cc band, he put 3cc in and said I already had 1cc in following surgery. I can feel the moment I have to stop eating. One more bite and it won't really go down. Definitely a different feeling.

I lost 8 lbs. the month I hadn't had a fill. I can't exercise right now, due to a foot surgery I had May 31st, so I'm happy with that loss. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Unfortunately, one trend I have to watch is the tendancy for me to snack. I know I can't eat a big meal, and sometimes it's dissatisfying. The food tastes good, and I want more. For the taste, you know. So I snack a bit later. Of course, if I don't wait long enough, that's trouble, too. I had my first PB the other night, and that will definitely curb my desire to snack between meals. Anyway, so far, I love my band

I have only had one fill (1.4cc in a 4cc max - band) and i'm just starting to feel it -it's been 2 weeks - I heard that happens alot...anyway, i'm still able to eat almost 2 cups of food in a serving. I'm eating slower because I hit "full" the other night and almost got sick-NOT a fun feeling. I'm just wondering, I am scheduled for another fill next weekend and I really want to eat less so that I can lose more, but if i'm feeling restriction is this wise?:help: Can someone please answer that for me? Remember i'm eating approx. 2 cups of food each meal and i've heard that 3/4 to a cup is what I was supposed to expect ?? Can a fill really make this happen even if I'm already feeling restriction?

Hi Renee

I had my first fill 10 days ago and go back for another dose in a week. My Dr told me the goal is to be satisfied with 1 cup of food, not be hungry for 4 hours after eating and experiencing about a 2 pound a week loss.

Sounds like you (and I) are ready for round two. Good Luck.

Tom

Am I the only one banded in May that does not have a fill yet??? I go on July 19th and I cannot wait. I have not lost a pound in 3 weeks. (it is my tom and I hope the scale moves when tom is gone) I am not eating anything bad....I have only cheated once with pizza, other than that it has been healthy foods. I am exercising pretty regularly but not doing good on the Water. I do get hungry, especially in the evening but I have not had one morsel after dinner. I thought with the amount of food I used to eat vs what I am eating now, I would be losing something!!!!

Should I go back to shakes for a few days??? I was really losing during the liquid stage. I feel like I am losing, my clothes are bigger and some people have noticed but the darn scale is stuck!

Sorry for the rant....I will blame it on TOM!!!

I had my first fill yesterday, I am so excited. I wasn't expecting it, it was a routine followup office visit (2 weeks). When I stepped on his scale, it hadn't moved (sad). I said "must be time for a fill". Guess what, I got one. I didn't even have time to be nervous. I got .7cc so we'll see what happens today (I have a 10 cm band). Just had egg last night, and this morning for the first time, I didn't want to finish my Protein Shake. He said I'm to call his office if after a day or two I don't feel restriction, and he'll adjust it. Wish me luck!

Hi Metalband,

I feel the same way. I did really weel the first few weeks. So far I have lost 30 lbs. and it's been 6 weeks, but 2 of those weeks I haven't lost anything. I exercise regularly and eat how I am supposed to, but nothing happens. I haven't had a fill either. I won't get one until the 25th of July. My dr. is out of town. I don't really feel like a need fill really. I don't get super hungry, most of it's mental hunger.

I am very frustrated at this point and feel like I am doing something wrong.

I'm a May bandster without a fill too...:think And I know that I NEED one! I am scheduled to see my surgeon on Thursday, but it's not a guarantee for a fill according to his Nurse Practioner. I can EAT, and then EAT some more! I haven't put any weight on, however I am not losing as I had been. And dammit, I am hungry--not just the mental kind, but the deep tummy growls kind. :hungry:

Metal--you are not alone! And it's my TOM too, double the curses!! MPatrizzi--good for you not to feel like you need the restriction.

My nutrition clinic did say that sometimes you need to "up" your intake to lose...so maybe taking in a few more calories will boost the metabolism & make that scale MOVE!

I guess we just have to hang in there! I don't want to ruin the hard work that I have accomplished so far! Keep on trying!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
