SillyWillyMommy:Thanks for the Mom encouragement. I have 3 sons with Aspergers Syndrome a very confusing disability. Learning for my kids takes 10X longer than those without the disorder. Let me illustrate: most Moms just say...... go brush your teeth. For me it would be 1. go to the bathroom 2. turn on the light 3. get your toothbrush 4. turn on the Water 5. wet your toothbrush 6. turn off the water 7. brush your teeth top and bottom. 8 turn on the water 9 rinse your mouth 10 rinse your toothbrush 11 turn off the water 12 put away your toothbrush 13 turn out the light 14 come back here. My situation is overwhelming at times. But I want to tell you that I have GREAT kids and every year we learn to overcome some major difficulites and rejoice in our accomplishments. Last year we took our first ever VACATION and I don't have the words to explain how wonderful that was!

Mischievous1: Muhammed Ali has several daughters. The gal on Dancing with the Stars is his youngest Laila. The gal who wrote this book is a bit older and WOW she had done great with the band. Makes me be a proud owner of one! I hope that helps.

Thanks Lauienj....I just looked at my card it said maximum fill volume is 4cc. I never read the little card. Now I know. I also took a walk and I do feel a little better.

cmacinga....Good Luck on your surgery date....it will be here soon.

RTL, Did you get that card before or after surgery? I ask because my doc's office mailed me the booklet that comes with the band along with that wallet card and it also said 4cc's. I received that in the mail THREE WEEKS BEFORE the surgery date. So I took it with me to my nurse education appointment and asked how do they know I'll get a 4cc band if it's true to doctor doesn't know what size he'll place until he's in there? I even got to ask my surgeon the question when she couldn't answer it. He wasn't sure, either. He said they shouldn't really be sending out that information pre-operatively for just the reason I mentioned. I might get a 10cc band, not a 4cc one and then what if I never got a card for a 10cc and carried my card for 4cc and something happened when I was away from home? Or if I move later down the line?

Point of my story: Please double check just to make sure the practice isn't just giving out card thinking to be nice so you'll have one and come to find out you've received the wrong card.

Patty - I have kids with learning issues also. My youngest is medicated everyday just to function normally. People don't get the amount of work we do and the emotional drain is pretty taxing sometimes. I wouldn't trade any of them because their hearts are incredible. Sometimes we just need a pat on the back and a break from it all. You are a great mom!!!!

I feel like I'm starving all the time now and I'm still only in liquids phase only. Does anyone know if cottage cheese or yogert would be ok to introduce to my system know. I need something to sure the hunger for a little while atleast. Slimfast shakes are not cutting it...

Michelle- Depending on what your Dr says is "liquids". My Dr says anything thru a straw is a full liquid... so I can have yogurt (fat free, no sugar added..and it must be smooth) and thicker Soups (in the blender for no lumps)...

Dr Michael Peters Jr.. from CHRIAS in Newark, DE.

But I would check with your Dr just in case.. I know alot of people on here said that their Dr says full liquids is something completely different. Better safe than sorry.

I finally ate a pudding and a snowcone. So I'm good for a couple of hours. I think tonight I'm going to try blending a Soup and eating it. I forgot about being able to do that. Maybe that will help and last a while. Can't wait til next week when I can add oatmeal and should be able to add cottage cheese then too. It's really had when your hunger comes on.. My doc said that I could have my fill 3 weeks from surgery date. I hear that that helps tons..

Hello all!

I just wanted to pop in and say hello, I'm also an a-MAY-zing bandster. I'm 8 days post-op and starting to feel really good. I'm still on liquids and just disovered how delicious the Lipton Cup of Soup (Cream of Chicken) is - so now I'm eating it often. Any one else still on liquids and have good suggestions? Or ideas to prepare me for mushies?

Thanks!

I just wanted to clarify that I think your confusing centimeters with cc's or ml's. The size of the band is 10 cm not 10ccs . I received my card after the surgery.

If one of them is just a little too tight, you may want to keep it!

Hey Melissa O. I'm right across the river from New Castle, DE. I had looked into Chrias but I was too impatient, so I did self pay and went to Monterrey Mexico last Thursday to have the procedure done. I surely have no regrets.

There was no way I could self pay. My process only took 2 1/2 months from my first consult to surgery.

however... I would have LOVED to visit Mexico again....

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
