May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Good Morning everyone. Hope everyone is doing well and feeling better today, and well wishes to everyone scheduled today.

Thanks for the info on what the pain scale has in store. Since I have had 2 c-sections prior I was hoping that this pain would be nothing in comparison. But than again as stated that was 15 years ago.

Good Luck to everyone having surgery today!!!!!

nurselaureli--I get the hiccups, too--not nearly as bad when i was first out but I still get them!

as for pain and the pain scale--I think when I first was banded--in the pacu--it was about an 8--but pain meds def. controlled that. Then after it was really the gas pains that got me, not the incisional pain. And it's NOTHING compared to a C-section--I had 2 sections and this, by far, is much easier than those! It was harder than my hernia repair though. And the first couple of days after when I felt like poo, I swore if I needed plastic surgery I would NOT get it done, but now that I'm feeling good, plastic surgery, if needed, is back on the table--that's how easy it is to forget!

going for my first post-op appointment tomorrow--I'm excited! I think I've lost like 12-13 pounds so far but the weird thing is my pants still seem to fit like before so I guess I was really stuffing myself into them and now they just fit like they are supposed to! LOl!

It's day 6 and I actually am thinking this was a good idea. I slept on my side all night and was not in pain. I'm going to see if I can go without meds today. I am a little concerned that I haven't had a BM at all. I'm not sure what would be in one since all I have had is clear liquid but I'm feeling a little toxic in that area. My throat is feeling better, the golf ball is only marble sized now. My insicions look good but are really starting to itch which means they are healing. It's a sunny day so I'm going for a walk for the first time since surgery.

Good luck today all you Tuesday banders!

Hello everyone -

I was luck enough to find out that St Francis has wireless... i am stiiting in the hospital waiting for my surgery that could be any time this morning. Dr. Srikanth has alread stopped by just to say hello.

I am REALLY thirsty, and getting hungry, my blood sugar is going to dive since I haven't had my Protein Shake yet. I am down a total of 12.4 lbs. from my preop Liquid Protein.

i am fairly nervous, but not really about the surgery, mores0 afterwards and the PBing I have heard about, that is about my biggest fear right now. I don't think I have told any of you why I am getting the surgery, besides just to loose weight.

We start with my mom who has arthritis in her hips (I have it now) and cannot walk for more tan 10-20 minutes at a time and is wheelchair bound at 60. Mind you she is about 60-70 lbs overweight, just got diagnosed with diabetes, has heart issues at this time. I did not want to end up like she has as it is already hard for me to get up and moving around with the extra weight I do have. My weight has been increasing steadily for a while now because walking and exercising can be a painful experience.

I am looking forward to a Pain free or at least slow down the arthritis in my hips by loosin weight and taking care of myself finally. Good thing is that my mom is now wanting to talk to her nutritionist to try and loose some weight as well!

Anyhow - I will be on the computer until the laptop dies (or I eat it) one or the other - Good luck to all of you that go in tomorrow.

Regards -

The hospital just called...the my surgeon had an emergency & my procedure is put off for a few more hours! I hope this isn't a sign of bad things to come...I am so psyched and anxious to get my lap-band! And, I am damn THIRSTY, almost 12 hours since I have had anything to drink!

Take a deep breath and think positive thoughts....better? :-)

I shouldn't say this, but in your position, I might be tempted to just swish some Water around in my mouth and spit it out. That would at least cure the dry mouth feeling for a time. *hides*

Thanks Legster!

I did just brush my teeth again, only to get the "wet" sensation in my mouth.

How's it going for you? Happy one week of your band!

Wenjea-

No BM here either...........My doctor said to take dulcolax (stool softener). I took two today and two yesterday. Still waiting! Tell me about this golfball feeling. I had a weird situation last night about four hours after I last ate (protein shake). I felt like my band was choking my stomach. My tummy was making all kinds of weird noises. Very uncomfy! I was scared to have my shake this morning.

Cried a little today. Not sure exactly why. Gripped out my husband for no apparent reason. Yelling at the kids, who can not play together good for some reason. All reasons that would have normally made me binge. I think I will actually be scared to eat when it is time. My tummy was growling last night. The heart attack feeling deep in my chest made me get ovr that quickly enough.

I have to go back to the doctor at 1:30, one of my incisions has opened and might be infected.................

Hello all, can someone please remove me from the calendar? I was to be banded the 31st and due to my wanting the AP band, I will not be banded until after it's US wide release following the ASBS conference June 11-17th. I'm now (hopefully) going to be banded June 20th. MY long fricking wait just got even longer!!!! I'm starting to wonder if this is really for me... Seems at every turn something gets tossed in my way. The exercise rehab physiologists I see ask me why do I even need to get banded, since I've lost so much on my own. I have always said that it will be only temporary, I'll gain it back without the help of the band as a tool to control my portions. But now I'm second guessing myself. Guess I'm just frustrated.

faithmd - Look at reality . . . . how many times have you lost and regained again. All the data says that only 2-3% of those who need to lose at least 100 pounds will lose it and keep it off. Three years out, those 2-3% have to exercise at the level of running 7-8 miles per day to keep it off. They ususally end up with over exercise issues. The statistics say 70% of lapband patients lose their weight and keep it off three years out. I'm not a gambling kind of gal but I like those odds a whole lot better. The good news is if they come up with some revolutionary new way to keep the weight off we can have the band removed. You are letting the part of you who doesn't want to have to control food control your thinking right now.

Stop it!!!

Jessica - I thought about taking some Colace (stool softner) I took it for three days before surgery and didn't get anything out either. I'm just not convinced there is anything there and frankly the thought of pushing anything out is not something I want to do right now. My throat feels good today. I think it was from the tube they put down during surgery. Sometimes I feel a gas bubble come up and it feels like it gets lodged there for a minute. I am really tempted to start Protein Shakes again even though my doc says not till Friday.

Why, thank you!

I'm doing so well, I almost hesitate to post about it in deference to those who are having a harder time. I never had shoulder pain after leaving the hospital the day of surgery, took a half mile walk the morning after and went off pain meds of any kind in day 3.

If you are reading this before you go to the hospital, my tip to you is to sit completely upright in a chair as soon as possible after surgery. I did it within 5 mins of arriving back to the hospital room and I think it really helped. Poor hubby had to "spot" me sleeping upright for over an hour because I don't awake from the anesthesia as well as most people do. :-)

Best wishes to you and all banders past, present and future.

mmmmm.... I'm sipping my lunch of Campbell's Soup at hand velvety potato.... OMG... how goooood is this stuff!?!?! I was hesitant to try it....knowing my love for home made baked potato soup (kinda like a soup form of a loaded baked potato)..... I popped it into the microwave and added a little garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper... MMMMMMMMM!!!!! :hungry:

twinmommy...

I'm still waitin on my banding (Thursday) but being on clear for awhile I can relate to the emotions. I'm sure recovering from surgery only adds to it all. I was all done in last night and had several things I wanted to get done. My husband and kids are really doing a great job of not reacting to my grumpiness, whish really helps me not to escalate. Sure would make it easier if they could manage to keep the kitchen in one peice (my kis are 12-16-19...certainly old enough).

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
