February Sleevers.... Check in!

Recommended Posts

I was also sleeved on 2/3, about 5 1/2 weeks ago. I have had no pain since the first week. I was hoping that I would have lost more than 20lbs by now, so I'm going to try eliminating most carbs. The problem is that I'm now lactose intolerant and can't have most Protein drinks. A lot of Proteins like chicken, etc are still difficult to eat and get enough in to meet the Protein criteria. Figures that carbs have no problem going down.

On the upside, people are noticing and I can get into jeans a size smaller :)

I was sleeved on Feb. 3rd and was just wondering how everyone else was doing? How far out are you? What food stage are you in? How are you tolerating food and liquids? Any complaints? Have you been able to start exercise? Any NSV yet? How are family and friends reacting to the new you? I'm just curious and really hope everyone is doing well!

I was sleeved on 2-18-14 am am currently on the soft food stage and am tolerating foods well so far, but still dealing with refux issues. Only complaint is the refux, never had it before surgery, but it is getting better now that i am taking meds daily for it. Other than some light walking, have not started exercising yet, NSV's: I have been able to get into some pants I have not been able to wear in over 5 years. Everyone is being supportive and very excited for my journey.

I am down 49 lbs total since June, 32 since starting the preop diet, and 18 since surgery. I weigh once a week on Mondays, so maybe I'm down a little more, hopefully but just got my visitor for the first time in over a year. Uggg. So not sure how that's going to change things

My surgery was on 02/11. Meet with nut next week to go over regular food diet. No complications at all but do feel a little weak at times. Im getting 500-600 cals a day. Is that close to what my other Feb sleevers are getting?

Sleeved 2/10

Able to eat all foods however my taste buds have changed drastically. Moderate Reflux heartburn taking meds now. Trying to learn to eat and chew slow still. I started spin class and that was a mistake. Was in pain for a week. I'm back to just walking :). 24 lbs down since surgery. I'm pleased and won't complain. I did cut my hair off so 5 lbs might have been tied up in there lol. Happy sleeving!

Hello February Friends,

I was sleeved on 2/4/14. I'm also on soft foods and tolerating everything pretty well. I'm just a bit bored with no variety and trying to think of things to eat is tough. I do get hungry, but am satisfied pretty easily. I usually take in about 600 calories, very occassionally go up to 850 or so. tuna, lunch meat, lite cheese sticks, scrambled eggs, turkey kielbasa, Soup, Protein shakes...that's about it. For a special treat, if I'm hungry at night I'll have 1-2 graham cracker sheets. Not sure if this is cheating or not. Otherwise, I don't have any carbs really.

I've been walking, stationary bike and even tried 20 minutes of the Jillian Michaels Fat Burn workout - whoa!!

NSVs - had to dig out some old clothes (luckily I have clothes in every size, so it will be a while before I have to shop!). My rings are fitting better. My face looks thinner. Exercise is getting easier!

I had a long 2 week stall and like the other poster in this thread couldn't understand how that math works: taking in so few calories, exercising, working full time, taking care of 2 kids and not losing for more than 14 days. Sigh. But it's over and I'm back to losing 2-3 lbs a week or so.

Hi all! I'm in my third week and on soft foods. Doing really well.

I'm great with liquids, no problem at all.

I'm learning (the hard way) my signal of when I'm full. I was distracted last night and took a few bites too many! BOY, I won't do that again!!! I HATE to throw up!! I actually spent 30 mins with the heart pounding and sliming talking my self out of throwing up. Lots of deep breaths!

I've lost 25 lbs so far. I REFUSE to weigh everyday once a week is fine with me.

My NSV is my wedding ring fitting!!! I haven't been able to wear it for years! It's still a little tight so I'm going to wait a bit before I begin to wear it all the time.

I'm walking everyday.

No pain just uncomfortable at the incision site where my stomach came out.

Sleeved on Feb 20. Doing ok on food. Mostly soft proteins....fish, eggs, cottage cheese. Most goes ok but sometimes I forget to eat slow and then it is too late and I am past full and feel very yucky. I have hit that 3rd week stall this week and have gained and lost the same 1 lbs all week. This too shall pass!

Hi Everyone!

I was sleeved on 2/4. Lost 40 lbs so far. I've been doing really well. No more pain. I had longer lasting pain due to a hematoma. I was sick last week with a respitory infection and was coughing so bad I hurt myself. It felt like I ripped my stomach open. I went the ER and they kept me overnight to do a CAT scan. Everything was fine. Some inflamation, and I was released the next day. No pain 2 days following that ordeal. I also feel like I'm slowing up. I'm eating regular food now and am very compliant. I starting doing couch to 5k this week and it's going well. I also walk 5 flights of stairs in my work parking lot which i couldn't do before. I'm purposly parking in the top level. Yey!

I was just sleeved 2/5/14 and am moving from pureed foods to soft foods this weekend. The reason I'm replying to your post is that I also have chronic respiratory infections and the only meds that my pulmonologist found that work the best for me is Levaquin (antibiotic) and Prednisone (steroid). My surgeon is totally against the use of steroids and has told me they could be life threatening, but this is the only combination we have found that works. I am concerned over inflammation and a potential bleed. This is my 2nd bout since 2/22/14 - just started meds again today. Any advice????

Feb 18th

Just starting soft Proteins and caught a tummy bug on day 2. I think it set me back because I could only tolerate liquids for 2 days. I haven't found anything I can't eat but cottage cheese sets very hard. Loving cheese sticks!!

I love Bariatric fusion Vitamins. They have everything I need in 4 chewable tablets a day.

I have been walking. I walked the dog just over a mile today.

I do have one incision that still hurts. Does anyone else find this?

My fat jeans hang on me and I went to a smaller pair in my closet and today I noticed that they are loose!

I

Only complaint is the biggest incision on my left side still hurts. A lot. Like, I still take pain meds for it often. I've asked my doc if it's normal, and apparently it is, unfortunately.

Haven't started exercising yet. I have to call tomorrow to make any appointment with the physiologist.

I am so glad you mentioned the big incision on the left! I'm also 3 weeks out and my dh cannot believe mine still hurts. Bad sometimes! I've resorted to taking pain meds when it acts up. Walking the dog a mile today mine started to hurt!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
