Cruising at 3 months out

Recommended Posts

Had surgery on 3/5/14...just a few days out, but hubby and I have a cruise planned for June 3rd. I'm excited about the trip and I work for a charter cruise company so I'm very comfortable with cruising.

Anyone else take a big trip like thus 3 months out? Any words of advice??

I have a cruise planned just 4 weeks out. I was sleeved on 2/24 and my cruise is 3/25. I cruise all the time, but I asked my doctor about it and explained I already had it planned. He said it would be fine. By 4 weeks the incisions will be closed and I will be on solid foods. He even said I could have a drink or two. Now this all remains to be seen. But I think it will be fine.

Not a cruise, but I flew to Canada for a trip 4 weeks out, no problem, and now 7 weeks out I am going on 3 back-to-back business trips. Just be careful to respect your weight lifting restrictions when handling your luggage. Be extra careful not to pick up an infection like Norovirus and remember that hand sanitizer is NOT effective in preventing Norovirus transmission, you need good old soap and Water hand washing for 30 seconds (sing "Happy Birthday" to yourself). :-)

Great advice. I have three business trips starting at the 8 week mark. I'll remember the noro virus info. That is NOT something I want to deal with. Oh my!

Going to st lucia for vacation next ..leave next Saturday". Since it is an all inclusive ..I am sure they will have healthy ( and unhealthily) choices. Going to see my nut and psychologist on Tuesday to prepare myself in making healthy decisions for me. I plan on being active. I also plan on being ok with myself If I indulge a little. Just a little. My psych/nut told me that my all or nothing attitude eating has to go. Anyhow. Have fun on your cruise. I love cruises. ..

Have fun in St Lucia -- I have it on my list of "must visits."

My surgery was 7/22, I went on a cruise Thanksgiving week with no issues. There are plenty of healthy, low carb choices. There are always eggs for Breakfast, always meat choices for lunch and dinner. I felt wasteful leaving so much on my plate at dinner but I tasted a little bit of everything.

You can also take adavntage of the gym or the running track on the top deck

You should FEEL fine by the time for your cruise. With all the food options, you should also not having a problem making good food choices! Have a ball (I'm so jealous)! ????

I was sleeved on 1/16/14 and have a cruise scheduled for 3/23/14, in just two weeks. This will be my 5th cruise and I am sure that I will be able to find healthy choices to eat with all the food options available. I jokingly told my husband that I should get a discount because my food intake will be minimal compared to everyone else. I am excited and can't wait. Another couple is going on the trip with us and the wife of the couple was sleeved in October. I plan on eating Protein first like I do now and taking some Quest bars with me for when I need a quick snack. I have been exercising the last couple of weeks and hope to be motivated enough to exercise some in the gym on the ship.

Please let me know how you do.... I am being sleeved on 4/08, and going on a cruise 5/24... I am used to cruising so sea sickness is not a concern... I don't anticipate any problems, but would love to hear how things go for you... Have fun

Wow, there's a surprising number of people going on cruises! That's great. :) My surgery date is 4/9/14 and I'll be leaving for a cruise on July 1. It'll be my first one. I'm glad to hear that people have done trips like this fairly soon after surgery and still managed to have a good time. I've been sort of worried that I'll be stuck feeling lousy during this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It's good to know that I'll probably be feeling fine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
