What am i doing wrong?

Recommended Posts

MissMac, my family is far from insensitive, if anything my husband is driving me nuts with his constant supervision of every bite I out in my mouth. It was MY idea to eat out bc it's a huge social thing, I enjoy doing with my family and since we didn't go out when I was on my pre-op diet, I thought since I could get scrambled eggs it was ok. Anyway, I am still learning, im only 3 weeks out and I need to have more grace with myself during this journey :)

Idahogirl,

My surgeon said I would still experience hunger, wish I didn't. Oh well

I've found that following a high protein/low carb the hunger really disappears. Seriously...the hunger is gone and I have to remind myself to eat. Maybe give that a try.

Of course that means no potatoes, rice, flour, sugar...

Blondiee,

Thanks, I need to supplement during the day with a Protein Shake for sure.

As far as the "whites" flour,sugar,rice.....I decided pre-op these items will never be apart of my life again, for many reasons but mostly bc I'm a chronic daily Migraine sufferer and these items cause inflammation in the body which in turn cause Migraines. I haven't had them since my pre-op diet and I feel amazing-no migraines, which is HUGE for me, so they will never be apart of my life again along with gluten. Now potatoes on the other hand, I enjoy and don't have a problem with, I think in moderation (we maybe eat potatoes once a month) are ok and my moderation is about 2 bites :) that's just me though, to each their own :)

Also keep in mind that you're eating potatoes, which are carbs. Carbs make me feel hungrier. I'm not allowed potatoes until I reach my goal weight.

Hi Zoumommy, I was also sleeved on 2/3, so I am no expert by far, but have experienced what you are talking about. I try not to be too hard on myself as I am only a bit over 3 weeks out and have found this new way of eating to be a HUGE learning process. I am on soft foods, every surgeon is different re: post op diets, but I find that if I wait too long to eat then I will not chew my food enough because I am hungry and then it will hurt. Just consider it a lesson learned.

Also, I have found this week I am hungry all of the time! I am PMS'ing (sorry tmi) so I think that is not helping. Even when I eat until satisfied, I find that I am hungry shortly after, which hasn't happened before. Maybe it's a 3 week post op thing? As our tummies heals, they start wondering where all the food went?

Good luck to you!

Lulah,

I definately need to be more mindful of my Protein intake, it's my downfall for sure. As for the hungry thing, I think it is a 3week post op thing. I just called my NUT who said its normal to be hungry shortly after a meal bc our tummies empty a lot faster than before. My NUT also recommends 3 mealS and 2 Snacks a day, but of coursE protein firSt :) I'm soooo sick of oureedS I could cRy :) what did u eat on oureeds? I'm living on scrambled eggs with melted cheese :)

Yes, I was cleared to work out at my 6 week check up. I do cardio 5X a week....either my treadmill or elliptical and I just started the 30 squat challenge( the easy one)!

Oooof! That's a lot of egg! Remember, because your tummy is still numb, you might not feel full when you really are. I took a bite out of a baby spoon, walked a lap around my house (open floor plan, so I could still talk to family and get my steps in), and came back and repeated.

My NUT said to wait 30 seconds or so between bites, eat no more than 2-3tbspns and if it took longer than 30 minutes, to stop eating.

I am 10 months out and can only eat one egg with cheese. Are you sure you are still physically hungry or is it head hunger?

Another thought. Are y taking your acid blocker? Reflux mimics hunger so it may be that you FEEL hungry when in reality, you are having a bit of indigestion.

Just slow down let your stomach catch up with her head and wait still hungry in 20 minutes trying another bite usually I will feel I may feel still hungry but if I stop and wait 20 minutes I realize that I'm actually full. It will get easier to learn to recognize that that empty bear feeling in your soffit guess is really the food stuck there. Lol. It's not hunger lol. When in doubt wait it out and especially Bacara with any carbs potatoes rice Pasta anything of that nature is much harder to break down and takes longer I can eat very little of these things these things also in excess quantity will cause dumping syndrome which if you haven't experienced is very uncomfortable and feels horrible remember this is a marathon not a sprint stick to your numbers the guidelines that they gave you and trying to better the next day and every day you get a little bit better and things will get a little easier and eventually you won't even notice

Oh and initially the hunger is there with the liquids in the new introduction to food but for me it went away and that I struggled more with knowing when I was hungry and I would wait cannot eat and then all of a sudden I was sick and felt horrible so try to just eat with a schedule leave out carbs for now. Keep it simple your stomach is a baby and has to re-learn how to function.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
