How much did your surgery cost?

Recommended Posts

I got my EOB today for my surgery that I had in December and the insurance company paid just over $15,000 for everything (my surgery, the hospital stay etc...) and if I didn't have insurance it would have cost me over $18,000. How much did I pay of the $15,000? well prior to my surgery I had already met my out of pocket max for the year so it cost me $0!!

Was your surgery covered? or was it all out of pocket? how much was your insurance company charged for the surgery (if your insurance covered the surgery)?

I haven't received my EOB from my insurance provider yet but, my surgery was covered under my plan.

Total out of pocket = $250.00

My out of pocket was about $400. That was the hospital copay, surgeon copay for visits, and Vitamins.

My insurance had an exclusion so I paid 12,200 for the surgery and another 2000 in travel expenses to Texas, Vitamins, and everything else. Good thing is it was all tax deductible!

My insurance excludes wls so I was self pay. I paid about $14,700 for the surgery, $200 for the consultation, $35 for the psych evaluation, and approximately $300 for the food for the pre-op diet, for a total of $15,235. The $14,700 included the surgeon, anesthesiologist, dietician, and follow up appointments for two years.

I used to live in Texas and had already started investigating it back then. Also, self pay in Denver is more like 17,000 so it was way cheaper to do it in Texas.

I'm in Texas and my insurance also has an exclusion but I have a hiatal hernia so my surgery is subsidized. My cash price is $8100. Without the hernia it would have been $12,500.

I paid 25,000 out of pocket for the surgery without insurance. My insurance covered all of the testing from other doctors, but my co pays added another few hundred onto the bill.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
