Insurance Trick - Individual Plan

Recommended Posts

Back last summery insurance denied my Lap revision because there was an exclusion on Bariatric surgery. So friggin nice of them since my band was making me throw up unfilled. Totally frustrated my doc's insurance gal told me a great suggestion. Opt out if my employer's insurance plan and buy an individual plan on my own like Blue Cross who covers weight loss surgeries. I did it and with the new non pre existing clause they couldn't say no due to my prior Lap Band. Jan 1 my new insurance plan was effective and on Jan 14th my revision was approved. Feb 10th is my big day!!! I would have never thought about totally thinking outside of the box with playing this insurance trick without my doc's creative insurance gal. I thought my dreams of a revision was gone until she told me what to do. I owe it all to her! ????????????????

YAY FOR YOU!!!!! YOU GIVE ME HOPE. I TOO HAVE HORIZON BCBS NJ, AND SWITCHED OVER FROM ONE OF THEIR OLD PLANS TO A NEW ONE (THAT HAS NO EXCLUSIONS OF PRE-EXISTING ILLNESSES). I SPOKE TO THEM TODAY AND THEY SAID I WILL HAVE AN ANSWER THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK, BUT THE WAITING IS SHEER TORTURE !!!!!

With these insurances you pay per month? Is it a contract? My insurance is Medicaid so I'm not familiar but am considering switching or getting an addition insurance for my revision.

Awesome! Before you purchased the plan did you find out if the plan covers bariatrics?

I'm in South Jersey. My doctor was Dr. Christopher Boynton in Lumberton, NJ (Burlington County). My insurance is Advantage EPO Silver. My premium is $549 per month, but I'm sure there are other plans that cover bariatric surgery that are cheaper. Take a look at www.ehealthinsurance.com. I hope this helps!:)

When I worked at Cigna (horrible job btw) I learned about Out Of Network benefits. They paid 80/20 on non cigna providers. Also paid for tube feelings and atypical therapies. Again, they don't want you to know.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
