Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

Recommended Posts

I feel like I'm over eating because I'm always hungry. I'm down 40 lbs since my January 21 surgery date. I've started the c25k app and some calisthenics to begin strength training. Could that be the increased hunger?

Hello shirabland I just started the c25k app too. I'm on my second day. Loving it so far!

You are doing great...congrats on the weight loss.. you are looking good. How are you doing since being in the hospital? I hope everything turned out good for you :)

I am doing so much better. I have another EDG scheduled for the 26th to make sure that it don't develop another stricture but I am so glad that I can eat now without throwing up. I actually had some Wendy's chili and had about half and settled good.

Great news so happy that you can eat again and hold it down :)

Oh boy, here I go again but I am just sooooooo discouraged and I need to talk about it. I will be 6 wks post op on Tuesday. I started the gym this week and did 3 days in a row. I've been feeling pretty good about adding exercise. Because I am slow loser I haven't been weighing myself often. I thought tonight would be a good night to weight myself in light of me adding activity and loo and behold it was another slap in the face. I actually gained a pound. In 6 weeks I've lost a total of 12 lbs. is that really even possible? Is there anyone here to have lost such a small amount? I'm taking in Protein, drinking Water, exercising. I feel so defeated and disappointed.

I had surgery Jan 9th 2014 (2 months out) and then my gall bladder out Feb 9th (GRRR). So my recovery was slightly challenged by the 2nd surgery. However I can not tolerate anything other then Water, Protein Shakes, and yogurt. So basicaly my diet has consisted of 2 8oz Protein Shake (35g of Protein, 180 cal, 2 carbs each) and about 32oz of water a day. I am hungry at times, but afraid to eat due to the feeling and thought of being nauseous, pain and vomiting. My next appointment is first week of april with my surgeon, however when I met with him a few weeks ago and told him this, he wasnt overly concerned, and neither was I at the time, but now im getting worried that I wont be able to eat 'normal' texture foods again.

Any ideas on what I can do? Should I be more worried?

I to am not losing fast. Surgery 1/20/14. I have lost a total of 24 lbs.I walk Every day on my treadmill 2-3 miles sometimes I try jogging a bit. I have not been cleared for exercise yet I was told to wait 8 weeks. Last week I gained 1.6lbs I could have cried! I felt to defeated and wondered what I had done to deserve this! I usually weigh myself once a week (Mondays) although this week I weighed myself yesterday and had still not lost any :(! I am going to try to stay positive and think of the long term.

Do you ever wonder if something is wrong? I wonder what the heck is it about me that I just can't seem to lose weight? I mean I had the lap band for 7 years and now Gastric Bypass and still I'm not losing. I feel like there has to be something else here that is amiss. Is there something doctors just don't recognize. How in the heck can someone eat 400 calories a day and still be overweight? I can see the body hanging on because of the starvation thing but how long can it hold on? 6 weeks, 3 months? 7 years? I just don't get it.

I am still trying to stay positive. I am going to the gym in the am. I continue to do what I'm supposed to in the hope that someday when I step on the scale the extreme will eventually pay off.

Yes I sometimes wonder what is wrong. My biggest fear is failure :(. I am 41 and they say losing is even harder after 40 plus with a thyroid I fear the worse. I can eat almost anything except rice, Pasta and breads. My next plan is to go back to just liquids maybe that will give me a kick in the right direction!

Thanks for responding. Sometimes I just need to vent and not think I'm the only one.

I hate to say it but I'm so glad to hear others in the plateau. I went 2 weeks losing nothing and just lost 2 pounds. I have been doing everything I am supposed to and that scale won't change, I even changed the battery thinking that was the problem. I don't understand it even though it is "normal" OK but 2 weeks!!!!! Doc says I should lose 20# a month, well that ain't happening. On the plus side I am losing inches but depending on the scale for the past 30 years of dieting, I WANT TO SEE THE POUNDS GONE!!!

We must all be in the same boat, no pounds lost in 2 wks!! 8 wks out and the same weight is 6 wks out - still 34 down. I have lost some inches, but I'd love to see that scale move! Super frustrating since it's the last 2 wks I've been at the gym. Ugh. Stay positive ladies, we are bound to cross this plateau soon enough.

I also am a slow losr and just adding excercise when I can on an eliptical. Even though not losing weight I know this is gonna take a while. I am told muscle weighs more than fat so you may be gaining muscle as you are losing inches..if that makes sense. I am also told those of us who had lapband removed and Gatric bypass done we will lose slower than those who have just had bypass or sleeve. I hope this helps

:)

It's hard not to get on the scale. I have cut it down to once a week. As a slow loser I'm sure it would be so much better not to weigh for maybe every 2 or 3 weeks but even in weight watchers you weigh once a week. I don't have a scale I weigh at my friends so I am definitely not too obsessive about it. It's just when I finally do go on and see no change or very little change after hard work it is confusing. I know you lose the most in the first couple weeks so if that is the case I'm surely in trouble. On the flip side I can't do anything about it now. I just have to keep my head up and keep pressing on but I thank God I have a place to vent about it. A place were I may find others who can relate. I'm also wondering if there is anyone out there who has only lost 13 lbs 6 weeks out. Maybe I want to find others so I can assure myself I'm not all alone. That it's not so abnormal. It helps to vent but then I go back to the gym and I pick myself up by the boot straps and press on . . . Until I weight again the following week.

By your 615-642-67489am month weigh in is where you should lose the most & start slowing down but some people lose up to 18months. .

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
