Hi all, I am getting sleeved on 1/10/14!!! I am so excited and a tad scared. I am looking forward to starting a new way of living. Well, I've already started but this will be a big jump start!

I am a 44 year old mom who lives in MA with my husband of 18 years and my son who is 17 and a senior in HS. I have many medical conditions, not the least of which is Parkinson's Disease (diag 2004 at age 35). I am hopeful that this will help me finally lose the weight and keep it off so I can keep on MOVING!! For the first time in my life I LOVE exercise...I just can't do much right now because of arthritic knees and bulging disk in back and general all over stiffness from the PD. Losing weight may not help with the stiffness but I am certain it will alleviate some of my pain in my knees and back. Also, I am diabetic (just diagnosed two months ago) so I am hoping to eradicate that pretty fast. Been dealing with numbness & tingling in my hands and feet....YUCK!! not fun.

I know I have to put the work in and I intend to do so but I have never been so excited about living a healthy lifestyle!!! I can't wait to start LIVING!!!

Hope everyone has a successful surgery!!!

Hugs from MA!!

Janice

Hello Janice! Sounds lime you are on the right path here. I am 67, older than you, and was sleeved 7 weeks ago, my husband about 5. Health problems also led us to the sleeve. I started Metformin about 4 months ago and did not return to it after surgery thank God. My husband has been diabetic over 30 years with terrible consequences, and he is on a minimum amount of insulin now that he is off the roller coaster of blood sugars ranging 40 to 400. It has been a scary and horrible lifestyle that kept me scared to death. He no longer needs the carbs and fruits to get him through the night.

I was having terrible neuropathy in my feet, and 3 weeks after surgery, and 30 lbs. lost in 3 months, I no longer have foot pain. I could barely shop or do any walking and that has really changed.

I agree with you about the MOVING part! I am so excited to be changing my lifestyle and getting up and out of the house this year. Last year my husband and I barely left home.

I do not know a lot about Parkinsons, but I know you will be healthier and happier all over when you have the surgery, and it should also help with the disc problem. My best to you, Linda

I wish you all the best I am 72 and had the surgery last May 22,2013.I am no longer diabetic the blood sugar dropped in less than a month .I was so unhappy and so miserable being over weight now I am able to walk and to run for a short distance also my blood pressure stays normal all of the time now and I no longer have leg aches and my hips don't hurt I can go shopping without having to sit down ever so often . It is not a harsh surgery but I was sore for three or four days then like a snap of the finger I felt wonderful I know you will be so happy after you are get past the surgery and the weight will just fall off I had a time trying to figure out what I was suppose to eat and drink for a few days but it all came together and I have gone froma size 22/24 to a size 12/14 and that is in seven months I am not the worlds greatest at excercise but walking did most of mine I painted a few rooms in my house and did a lot of cleaning house so that is my secret to excercise .Good luck and will keep you in my prayers let me hear from you after you get home and we can laugh at what you went through ,

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
