Lap Band and Respiratory problems?

Recommended Posts

Help....I had my band emptied after being in the hospital with severe asthma/respiratory problems. Going to have my band removed and hoping for a sleeve. But Dr. won't do surgery till my lungs are in better shape. Meanwhile, I'm on meds, breathing machine and suffering from asthma type symptoms. Anyone else with advice or the same problems. I can't take much more but have to wait till my insurance kicks in on Feb 1st. Ugh

Sorry this happened to you, the lap band has caused respiratory issues in MANY lap banders when acid reflux gets so bad, the acid reflux can get very dangerous if not treated with removing saline and medications, timely, and as you can see cause respiratory issues, many have also reported aspiration pneumonia from long term reflux and band slippage.

Please be advised the Sleeve CAN cause horrible reflux as well and MANY now are having to revise to the Bypass if the reflux get really bad with the Sleeve, since there is no turning back after you get your stomach removed.

I hope you can find relief and answers, good luck.

Thank you all for the input. I'm going to have to tolerate these respiratory problems till Feb 1st when my insurance becomes active. Till then....I'm very uncomfortable with major breathing issues. Just not fair. :-(

if you are undergoing surgery again continue to diet as if your band is filled. losing wt. will only benefit you in the long run. i am so sorry you are having this problem. but you do need to find out the cause. you certainly don't want to go from one bariatric surgery to another that causes the same problems. time to do research. i send you warm wishes and i pray you find relief soon.

In answer to the above question. I have never had any type of respiratory problem in my life.

Also, now I am unable to each anything solid. Struggling with liquids too and have to sip every-

no way to live. i am so sorry. illness is so stressful. i do pray that your cause is found soon and that the doctors are treating this as serious as it sounds. i get congested heart failure when i am loaded with fluids. it happened when i had wls. one minute i was walking the hallways just fine and than taking 10 steps was so hard. i knew what was wrong i have cardiac arrhythmia's and one of the side effects is congested heart failure. the Fluid was going in my lungs. i kept telling the nurses to stop the iv. even insisted in giving me boluses of Fluid because they said i was dehydrated. uggggghhh. so i know what not being able to breathe feels like. when i got home from the hospital bearly crawling up the few steps i have to take i went straight to my medicine cabinet and took 160 mg of lasix. i pee'd and pee'd so much that i just pulled up a chair to the bathroom because laying down and getting to a upright position took to long and was to painful. i pee'd myself one time so decided just to stay in the br. but it was all worth it. i could breathe again. oh man. so i know how you feel. and i really sympathize with your situation. i hope you have a inhaler and are on med's for asthma. at least that until your insurance kicks in.

Absolutely true. Three years ago, I suddenly developed violent pneumonia. I had months of terrible reflux before this where I was waking with stomach acid coming out of my nose. I got my band completely emptied but it did not entirely regress. The pneumonia worsened rapidly and went from single to double. I am a diabetic and pneumonia kills one in eight diabetic who get it so everyone was freaking out. It was presumed to be viral in nature until the last day. I suddenly coughed up something that tasted like it had been hanging out in a drain for months and my pneumonia disappear within a few hours. It turn I had inhaled something. Be careful.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
