My Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I have been getting ready for the gastric sleeve surgery since July. My surgery date is January 14th. I am pretty antsy right now although I have had much more serious hospitalizations in the past. My Dr is Dr. Peter Liao GBMC Comprehensive Obesity Management Program in Baltimore Maryland. Right now I am 5'5 1/2 " and weigh 250 lbs. I know that I want to lose at lease 100 lbs. I can't imagine how this is going to feel carrying around that much less weight. You see , I broke both legs in a car wreck 10 years ago.

Something that has me even more anxious is the fact that my husband's former wife went into have gastric bypass surgery in 2009 and they opened her up and they found cancer throughout her body. She passed away in 2011. So, I am not only anxious for me, but I am concerned about him as well.

It's great to be part of the forum.

Lisa

Hi Lisa, being anxious is common in the days leading up to surgery! It sounds to me like you have a clear understanding of how you will benefit from significant weight loss, so focus on those positive thoughts and expectations rather than the teeny tiny chance that the doctors will finds a serious disease when you have your surgery. Wishing good luck and smooth sailing as you start this journey!

I am also scheduled for January 14th. Just started my two week pre-op diet. First day I had stomach flu and now I have a cold. Really struggling and feel alone right now. I know I'm making the right decision but at the moment not so sure.

I'm done with all my workshops and appts by end of January. Waiting to meet with NP on 1/10/14 to get my surgery date. I'm excited but nervous as well. I find myself having a funeral for a friend aka "food" and overeating more often than not as if I wouldn't be able to taste food again. Whew glad to finally share. Good luck on the 14th all will be well.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
