December post ops

Recommended Posts

I've been feeling a little nauseous, with cold sweats most days. I think it has to do with taking too big of sips. I'm still on full liquids. I get to go to pureed foods tomorrow. I know I'm not dehydrated. I'm drinking four half-liter Water bottles per day, and my urine's clear or light yellow. I still get dizzy now and then. But not as much since they have me on half my BP meds now. Does anyone else feel nauseous with cold sweats most days?

Rny dec 11th and I do good with most food. It seems like pork goes right threw me, oatmeal sits to heavy on my pouch but all in all I feel good on the food part. I do have trouble drinking liquids, I believe its from taking to big of sips. I take a sip and it is followed up with a tightness in my chest. Is this a sign of to big a sip?

I found that when I started taking my Vitamins is when I started with the dizzy feelings. I got to where I couldn't handle the chewable vitamins at all. I would get dizzy, weak, and I would break out with the cold sweats. At my last visit with my doc and my nut, I was telling them about this and they told me about the new bariactric capsule vitamins that just came out. You take one capsule three times a day. That has seemed to do the trick for me.

I felt like I havent been losing weight, I know its only been 3 days, so I bought an ekectronic scale earlier. I stepped on ariund 7pm and weighed 313.6lbs I went in weighing 322lbs... I stepped on again about 9:05pm.... im at 311.8! I should have known I was losing weight because my stomach binder is no longer tight and holding my stomach steady. Im so excited. Im barely reaching my Protein and fluid goals though. 5 grams short of the protein and 4oz short of fl oz. I just cant take in any thing else today.

Glad there is a new December Post Op thread. I had RNY on the 18th and also had a large paraesophageal hernia repaired during the same surgery. Tomorrow I see my surgeon to have drain removed. After I see him he will clear me for stage 2 of the diet plan. Up until now I have been on Clear Liquids, broth, ice chips and SF Popsicles. I am doing well reaching my Water goals and I am ready to start the process of monitoring Proteins and liquids and all that fun stuff. Today being 5 day post surgery for some reason I am more achy and tired that any other day. I am a little lite headed too. Yesterday I had first BM and today I had one as well. I am eager to see what the surgeon says tomorrow. I have been following his directions to a t, I have no idea how much I lost though because i refuse to buy a scale yet. I want to be surprised at his office tomorrow.

Hi, everyone,

I'm a December post-op too! I had my surgery on December 9th, I'm doing good so far, I'm off my bp medicine. I'm having trouble getting enough Protein in. I really don't feel like eating. I'm kind of afraid to eat. I've had cottage cheese and yogurt that was ok. I tried scrambled egg and that caused me pain.

I didn't even eat one whole egg. I was rolling around on my bed like I was dying. I will say that it does scare you to try new things but you just have to push through. I had the sleeve surgery first in September. So I've been through the advancing diet ordeal. I will say that I find the advancing diet has been a great deal easier with the gastric bypass. Trust me I still make mistakes and I have to pay for it. Sometimes it's as simple as being nauseated, but other times it's full out gagging and throwing up. I just go by the trial and error technique.

I am two weeks post-op and today was my first time trying an egg...it went down fine, no complains so far :)

I do feel super tired...I know i need to exercise but i just dont seem to have the energy. Does anyone else feels or felt the same way during this time after surgery? If so, any advise?

Thank you and good luck to all of you in your new journey!

I feel tired too! I haven't started exercising either. I'm 2 weeks every day I feel better. I think after Christmas I'll try riding my stationary bike.

Wow, you're already on food food? And I experience the same tightness when I sip liquids. I'm really trying to focus on sip size, and it's tough getting in the liquid!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
