2Nd Week And Already In A Stall...wtf!

Recommended Posts

Hi there. So my first week went well and I lost 10 pounds. I guess that happens when all you are putting in your mouth is Water and tea. My 2nd week has been a totally different story. This is my full liquids week. Now I'm drinking Protein Shakes, milk, a little bit of creamy Soup, and greek yogurt. I'm also trying to get in at leaf 60 oz of liquid a day. Some days are better than others on the 60 oz. I'm probably getting in 600 calories. Anyways I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do and nothing is happening. At one point during the week I lost half a pound. Today is saturday and since monday I am up almost a pound since monday. I guess there are several factors to this. My body thought it was in starvation mode and it's holding on to everything I put in it. Its possible my body is just trying to adjust after all the stress of surgery. I figure after my body is adjusted then I will start losing....I hope... Anyone else have this issue? what do you think?

thanks a bunch!

Jessica

That's completely normal and expected...and could last for many weeks. Stick to your plan: Protein and Water. Track them and do your best to make your daily goal. Try to not obsess over the weight on the scale, because even in the stall most people lose inches like crazy.

I was released on full liquids and while I'm getting all my Protein & fluids(300 calories in protein) I'm only getting between 400&500 at the very most calories and I've only lost 6 lbs in my first 10

Days :/ I mean I lost 8 of the fluids the pumped into, but as far as my weight upon check in preop I am down 6 and trying so hard not to fret and get disappointed! I'm sure we both are just going to have to wait it out and see a big loss soon enough...our bodies are going into survival mode and keeping the weight on! Hang in there and good luck!

I'm 13 days post op my energy levels getting intense been brisk walking. i lost 18 LBs first week but I'm hoping I can stay away from the darn scale until I go back to the doctor the 23rd. The scale is the problem it plays mind games and the most you should ever weigh is every week but even that might mess with me. So staying focused this thing is really working can tell by my blood sugars, and clothes fitting better. I'd like to check the scale once a month the most!

6 weeks out and I haven't lost anything since week four. I am getting my protein( still need a shake to help) and my liquids but I have had a bite here and there of thanksgiving goodies. It is what it is. I am still 22 lbs lighter than I was 6 weeks ago.

Gosh it sure is frustrating. I think I lost more at this point when I was banded! I weighed myself a week ago and I was 229. Weighed myself this morning...231. I may be alone in saying this but it makes me wonder why am I trying so hard? I'm all about Protein protein protein but when it doesn't yield the results I feel it should then all I think is cookie cookie cookie. I mean this is why I couldn't lose with diet and exercise. The weight loss was alwAys great at the start and then it got slow and I got unmotivated. At this point I'm not a happy camper.

this was my full liquid week. I started drinking milk which is actually pretty filling. Also I started eating greek yogurt and creamy Soups and straining out all the chunks. of course I'm trying to suck down the nasty Protein shakes. At first they were ok now I just can't stand them. yesterday I got Isopure Protein powder with 50 Grams of protein!. I figure I can get one of those in and try to get the rest of my Protein somewhere else. tmrw starts purees and I'm pretty excited about it. I hope it will help with my exhaustion and getting the scale moving.

My second and third week of surgery I was in a stall but two weeks to the day, it broke (Thanksgiving Day). I was paranoid about it until I found out it was normal for it to happen.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
