I was told chewable multi as you wont be able to swallow pills right after surgery. My surgeon told me to get chewable multi, B12, Iron, and calcium citrate.< /p>

I was advised to take a chewable multi post-op, but I couldn't eat anything for the 1st week post-op - everything I ate caused a sever reaction from my stomach. I started taking the normal size mufti-Vitamins at around day 14. I broke one in half and swallowed it. I didn't have a negative reaction to it, I've been taking them ever since with no problems.

I had no problem with standard pills after surgery, including the larger Multivitamin tablets within a week or so. The only chewables that I used was Calcium as those tablets tend to be real horsepills (though there are some petite versions available for some brands - you just have to take twice as many of them,) and I used them for quite a while as I bought a big bucketload of the Bariatric Advantage chewables that needed to be used.

Some may have a problem with normal pills for a while until the stomach inflammation goes down, but most of the concern over pills is a holdover from RNY practice where they can get stuck in the small stoma at the bottom of the pouch - a problem that doesn't exist with the sleeve.

I took a (prescribed) large pill the day after surgery - and my dr is so conservative he has all patients on nil by mouth for 4 days (IV fluids only). I've never had a problem.

I was told either was alright, I think the right Vitamin is the vitamin that you will take EVERY damn day.

I have been struggling with this as my doc said that liquid Vitamins were all I could have, but then he said that most liquid Multivitamins contain zinc and it would hurt my stomach. I had already bought some liquid multivitamins which were citrus flavored and extremely tolerable in flavor. My lips are a little chapped, though, and as I took the Vitamin it made my lips burn. This worried me because it is it burning my slightly chapped lips, imagine what it is doing to my freshly cut stomach! I know I am not getting much in Vitamin wise and I HAVE to get some Vitamins, but even my AquADEK's chewable vitamins have zinc...Any suggestions? My stomach has been pretty weak post op and I don't know if I can tolerate anything too nasty. Do you think the burning was from the citrus flavoring or the vitamin itself? I just don't know...

Good Q. I am preop and worrying about meds. Specifically my happy pills (lithium, lamictal and seroquel) I am quite stable but these aren't meds you can skip. I'm thinking bring a pill crusher and ask dr.

Your stomach does babe mucosa that prevent "burns" in the way your lip might burn otherwise stomach acid would make mince meat of it. Call your doc and ask for recommendations but I think you're right, you do need to take something especially early on when you can barely eat.

My surgeon prescribed me pills the day of surgery and the nurse administered them. He explained that pills are hard and will work their way through, but that anything mushy or gluggy wouldnt. I had no trouble. But OP, don't take advice on the Internet. Follow your surgeon's protocol.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
