I am so glad I got my band

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 1/19/07 after thinking about weight loss surgery for quite some time. So far I have lost almost 25 pounds and have not had a fill yet. I went yesterday for my yearly ob/gyn appt. I have always dreaded these appointments. At last year's appointment, the nurse had my weight at 311. I had mentioned to my doc then that I was definitely considering getting the lap band within the year. She had also been encouraging me for several years to consider weight loss surgery. At any rate to make a long story short, I have been 300 plus pounds for like 20 years. Ten of which she has been my ob/gyn. I am 38 years old now. The biggest I have ever been is 368 but lost some weight over the past five years which I never regained. On surgery day, I was 300.5. My ob/gyn's office uses the traditional scale where you slide the blocks. My lap band surgeon's office uses digital and I have a digital scale at home. This appointment yesterday was my first weighing experience with the non digital scale. You do not know how good it felt to not have to see that nurse slide that thing down to 300 and then move the block over to get the rest of my weight. I almost cried although I had already seen the 300's disappear on my digital scale. Just not having that block have to go down to 300 made my year. I have to toot my own horn. I am so glad I got the lap band. I have no regrets thus far. I am looking forward to under 250 pounds. Please pray for me and I will pray for you.

She is very pleased and glad that I finally made the decision to have the surgery. She has been very encouraging throughout the years. I have always been fearful of doctors visits because of my weight ("morbid obesity"), feeling hopeless about the situation and having to endure her "talks" about my needing to lose weight. Although I know she was telling me for my own good. Ultimately it was my decision to make that step into bandland. I just wish I had done it sooner. But it is better late than never. I am finally in tooterville after 20 long years.

It's really great to hear from bandsters who are getting on well with their band, very encouraging for those of us who are awaiting our ops.

Well done on the weight loss!!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
